HORS!B!AN,
WITH OR WITHOUT
DEHULLING,
AS COMPARED TO SOYBEAN OIL MEAL Theapparent digestibility
of energy andprotein
inhorsebeans, by

has beenstudied,
with or withoutdehulling,
ascompared
tosoybean
oilmeal, ( 44

The
digestibility
coefficient for energy in the whole seed was8 7
p. 100. Itsdigestible
energy content was 3900 kcal perkg dry
matter, i. e. 93 p. 100 of thedigestible
energy ofsoybean
oilmeal.
The
apparent digestibility
ofprotein
was similar to that ofbarley (between
80 and8 5
p.100 ),
and much lower than that of
soybean
oil meal(around
go p.100 ).
After
dehulling,
theapparent digestibility
of energy was raised to 94 p. Too and that of pro- tein to8 9
p. 100. Thecorresponding digestible
energy content was 100 kcal perkg dry
matter,that
is
5 p, 100higher
than that of the wholeseed,
and 2 p. 100lower than that ofsoybean
oilmeal. The
apparent digestibility
ofprotein,
was almost the same for dehulled raw horsebeans and cookedsoybean
oil meal.VALEUR

queproportionnellement,
ceci bienqu’une adaptation
à la Féverole ait été réaliséependant
lepréengraissement (régime
à 10p. 100de Féve-role).
En
conclusion,
desperformances zootechniques.
SUMMARY
FEEDING OF GROWING-FINISHING PIGS WITH HORSE-BEANS AND WHEAT Two trials were carried out in order to determine the
feeding
behaviour ofpigs receiving
diets
containing
wheat and horse-beans.In restricted
feeding
andduring
thefinishing period,
totalreplacement
ofsoybean
oil-mealby
horse-beans led to alarge lowering
ofperformances ( 10
p. 100forgrowth
and food conversionratio).
In ad libitum
feeding,
the animals which received 20p. ioo horse-beansduring
thefinishing period
limited their food intake and theperformances
were reducedalthough
anadaptation
tohorse-beans had been obtained
during
theprefattening period (diets
with 10p. 100horse-beans).
It may be concluded that an exclusive or massive utilization of horse-beans has to be pros-
