AFR/RC27/R10: Planning and management Regional Committee,

Having studied the report of the Regional Director on “Evaluation of Long-Term Planning–

Environmental Health”;

Recognizing the difficulty of assembling reliable data for a significant evaluation,

1. THANKS the Regional Director for his report which faithfully reflects the situation relative to the programme for the promotion of environmental health;

2. APPROVES both the report and the medium-term programme annexed thereto;

3. REQUESTS the Regional Director to:

(i) pursue the programme as set out and cooperate with Member States in reviewing their national programmes;

(ii) make an inventory and strengthen training institutions in the Region to ensure that the training of personnel is oriented towards problems affecting the most underserved sections of the population;

(iii) pay special attention to the development of vector in the Region;

(iv) review the possibility of extending the enchocerciasis control programme in the Volta River Basin to neighbouring countries affected by enchocerciasis;

(v) cooperate with Member States in identifying health aspects of human settlements in the framework of a multisectoral approach in the planning of socioeconomic development.
