The Essachess – Journal for Communication Studies invites scholars to submit original papers for a Special Issue on “Communication in Statistics: Why? When? and How (not) to do it?” This special issue co-editors are looking for papers which are analyzing all relevant matters of communication in statistics.
Scope of the Issue. Nowadays the communication issues became more and more important in almost every industry. The plan of this special issue of Journal for Communication Studies is to offer to the academia (and not only) a comprehensive description of ways in which communication interfere in statistics. It is well know that many press releases by Official Statistics Offices all around became suddenly subjects of breaking news. On the other hand there are occasions when released statistical information became subject of debates (sometimes on technicalities: how was measured? was correct measured? is the methodology uniform all around the world in order to permit international comparisons? etc.). Therefore a good communication in statistics will enhance the institutional credibility and will help further statistical inquiries to obtain much more accurate data. Because, we have to admit, that communication is not appearing only in the final stages of the statistical processes but it is connected at the early stages. Was the questionnaire well developed and the easy to communicate within the target audience? Can a good communication – at the interviews stage – to lower the rate of non-responses? Are there significant differences between different communication channels which are used in order to record statistical information? Should be a good communication between different governmental institutions a sine qua non condition in order to integrate administrative data in a deeper manner into the statistical system? Are there any significant risks when different administrative bodies are sharing too much data to each other?
