R&um6.
a
Abstract. - CuSz and CuSez both are metallic compounds (superconductors below Tse N 2 K) [l]. They crystallize (under high pressure) in the Pas pyrite structure.
The occurence of a charge density wave in CuS2 is suggested from the results of our experimental study : a second order transition occurs at TQ = 160 K which is characterized by a strong increase of the Cu NMR line width an a decrease of the bulk susceptibility ; changes in the slopes da/dT (lattice parameter) and dp/dT (electrical resistivity) are also observed at this temperature. These effects have already been observed in layered dichalcogenides (NbSez, TaSz, TaSez) and are attri- buted to a C. D. W. [2] ; this is in agreement with the observation by electron-microscopy of struc- tural transition in CuS2 below TQ 131. A first order transition is also observed at TR = 47 K as indi- cated by a jump of the lattice parameter (Aa = 0.001 2A) and a peak of the bulk susceptibility. In CuSez compounds strong effects associated with the presence of vacancies, are observed : stoichiometric compounds can be synthetized with various vacancies concentrations according to the temperature at which the high pressure synthesis is performed. Compounds presenting a high vacancies concentration exhibit a magnetic transition : below Tc = 31 K a weak magnetic moment is detected by magnetization measurements ; the temperature dependence of magnetization suggests the occurence of a weak ferromagnetic ordered state. The occurence of magnetism below Tc induces a decrease of the Cu and Se NMR line intensity ; the strength of this NMR wipe out is related to the vacancies concentration in a simple phenomenological model of local environment.
