400 ans de présence française au Canada, 1604-2004 Focus : La présence française au Canada remonte à quelque
400 ans. Au XVIIesiècle, les grandes puissances européennes
se disputent l’Amériquej pour repousser toujours plus loin les frontières de leur empire colonial. La France participe à ce projet de conquête territoriale à l’instar de ses rivaux, l’Angleterre, l’Espagne, le Portugal et les Pays-Bas. Jusqu’à la Conquête britannique de 1760, la Nouvelle-France recouvre la majeure partie de l’Amérique du Nord. Conçus et construits par le Centre d’études acadiennes de l’Université de Moncton (CEA), le Centre de recherche en civilisation canadienne-française de l’Université d’Ottawa (CRCCF) et la Société historique de Saint-Boniface (SHSB), les trois sites Internet ci-dessous retracent l’évolution de la présence française au Canada depuis quatre siècles. Ce projet cherche à mettre en valeur la richesse du patrimoine historique et culturel des communautés francophones et acadiennes du Canada en rendant accessbiles au grand public de nombreux documents d’archives inédits. Le CEA, le CRCCF et la SHSB ont pu réaliser ce projet grâce à une subvention du Programme de culture canadienne en ligne du ministère du Patrimoine canadien.

Arctic Blue Books (British Parliamentary Papers on Arctic Exploration) Online
Focus: The University of Manitoba Archives & Special
Collections would like to announce the establishment of the Arctic Blue Books Online. Dating from 1818-1878, the Arctic
Blue Books are volumes cons i s t i ng of the British Pa r l ia me nt a r y Papers relating to arctic exploration. With the support of the Winnipeg Foundation, the 6000 plus pages of the Arctic Blue Books were scanned and mounted on the web early this year. As well as documenting the exploration of the Canadian Arctic, they contain material relating to topics such as native communities, living conditions on ships, expeditions, meteo-rological observations, the status of commercial whaling, botanical discoveries, and many other subjects.
