Abstract

Since the beginning of the Cold War to the present day, American foreign policy has witnessed many changes. The present study aims at discovering the role of conservatives in directing the American foreign policy during the Cold War, mainly facing the Soviet Union. This study also aims at unveiling the main role of new conservatives to influence Bush’s administration in the post September 9th events period and to direct a policy towards the Middle East through the occupation of Iraq under the pretext of spreading democracy and combatting terrorism. In our study, it was found that the conservatives and neo-conservatives played a great role in guiding and directing the American policy. The study also revealed that the reasons and motivations that President Bush declared as main factors lead to the occupation of Iraq (spreading
