Winchester Fixed Disc Drive Controller Assembly

1. UNPLUG COMPUTER POWER CORD FROM AC OUTLET

2. Open left side door as previously described.

3. Disconnect lOP expander cables, if present, from processor stack door (Figure 4-17).

4. Loosen two captive thumbscrews on processor stack door (Figure 4-17) and swing door open, allowing door to rest in open position.

CAUTION

CAREFULLY HANDLE BOARDS TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THEM FROM ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE OR OTHER CAUSES.

HOLD BY EJECTORS OR SIDE EDGES ONLY. DO NOT TOUCH EDGE CONNECTOR CONTACTS OR BOARD PLANES. IM-MEDIATELY PLACE BOARD IN AN ANTISTATIC BAG OR ON ANTISTATIC SURFACE.

5. Pull out on board ejectors to release board from stack motherboard (Figure 4-18) and slide the board out of the slot. If lOP finstrate (slot #4) is being removed, pull out on ejectors, slide board slightly out, open connector gate, remove ribbon cable connector (Figure 4-18), and then remove board from stack.

Reassembly Notes

When installing board, hold by ejectors and use side edge of board to move air controller out of the way and onto board.

Insert board firmly in stack motherboard and push in by ejectors to lock board in place.

Firmly tighten stack door thumbscrews to prevent RFI radiation.

Slots 1-3

1. UNPLUG COMPUTER POWER CORD FROM AC OUTLET.

2. Remove left side door as previously described.

3. Loosen two #2 Pozidriv screws that hold trim piece to left side of computer (Figure 4-19) just far enough to remove trim piece. Remove trim piece by pulling straight off while leaving screws in place on computer.

4. Disconnect lOP expander cables, if present, from processor stack door (Figure 4-17).

5. Loosen two #2 Pozidriv captive screws at bottom of processor stack door (Figure 4-20).

CAUTION

BEFORE REMOVING PROCESSOR STACK DOOR AS DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING STEP, NOTE THAT INTERNAL lOP EXPAN-DER CABLES MAY INTERCONNECT THE DOOR WITH ADDI-TIONAL lOP FINSTRA TES. THESE CABLES MUST BE DISCON-NECTED FROM THE FINSTRA TES BEFORE THE DOOR CAN BE COMPLETELY REMOVED.

6. Loosen two captive thumbscrews on processor stack door (Figure 4-20) and remove door.

Disconnect internal lOP expander cable(s), if present, from lOP finstrate(s) (Figure 4-21).

CAUTION

CAREFULLY HANDLE BOARD TO PREVENT DAMAGE FROM ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE OR OTHER CAUSES. HOLD BY EJECTORS OR SIDE EDGES ONLY. DO NOT TOUCH EDGE CON-NECTOR CONTACTS OR BOARD PLANES. IMMEDIATELY PLACE BOARD IN ANTISTATIC BAG OR ON ANTISTATIC SURFACE.

7. If board in slot #1 or #2 is being replaced, disconnect internal lOP cable from lOP finstrate in slot #2 (Figure 4-21).

8. Pull out on ejectors to release board from stack motherboard and slide board out of slot.

Clock Board

Reassembly Notes

When installing board, hold by ejectors and use side edge of board to move air controller out of the way and onto board.

Insert board firmly in stack motherboard and push ejectors in to lock it in place.

Reinstall processor stack door by first attaching with two thumbscrews at top of door and then installing two bottom screws. Firmly tighten all screws to prevent RFI radiation.

2. Open left door as previously described.

3. Disconnect lOP expander cables, if present, from processor stack door (Figure 4-17).

4. Loosen two captive thumbscrews on processor stack door (Figure 4-20) and swing door open, allowing door to rest in open position.

CAREFULLY HANDLE BOARD TO AVOID DAMAGE FROM ELEC-TROSTATIC DISCHARGE OR OTHER CAUSES. HOLD BY EJEC-TORS OR SIDE EDGES ONLY. DO NOT TOUCH EDGE CONNEC-TOR CONTACTS OR BOARD PLANES. IMMEDIATELY PLACE BOARD IN ANTISTATIC BAG OR ON ANTISTATIC SURFACE.

5. Remove boards in slots 5-12 by pulling out on ejectors to release boards from stack mother-board and sliding mother-boards out of slots.

6. Loosen two slotted captive screws that hold clock board to stack motherboard (Figure 4-22).

7. Disconnect clock board from processor stack motherboard at inline connector (Figure 4-22).

8. Pull clock board straight out of motherboard and out of stack.

Reassembly Notes

The clock board connector and mating motherboard connector are not keyed; however, the clock board screws and motherboard holes do not align unless proper connection is made.

Firmly tighten stack door thumbscrews to prevent RFI radiation.

2. Remove left door as previously described.

3. Remove front and rear covers as previously described.

4. Loosen two #2 Pozidriv screws that hold trim piece to left side of computer (Figure 4-19) just far enough to remove trim piece. Remove trim piece while leaving screws in place on computer.

5. Disconnect lOP expander cables, if present, from processor stack door (Figure 4-17).

6. Loosen two #2 Pozidriv captive screws at bottom of processor stack door (Figure 4-20).

CAUTION

BEFORE REMOVING PROCESSOR STACK DOOR AS DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING STEP, NOTE THAT INTERNAL lOP EXPAND-ER CABLES MAY INTEXPAND-ERCONNECT THE DOOR WITH ADDITION-AL lOP FINSTRA TES. THESE CABLES MUST BE DISCONNECTED FROM THE FINSTRA TES BEFORE THE DOOR CAN BE COM-PLETEL Y REMOVED.

7. Loosen two captive thumbscrews on processor stack door (Figure 4-20) and remove door.

Disconnect internal lOP expander cable(s), if present, from lOP finstrate(s) (Figure 4-21).

8. Disconnect internal lOP cable from lOP finstrate in slot #2 (Figure 4-21).

9. Remove eight #2 Pozidriv screws that attach cover plate over processor stack, and remove cover plate (Figure 4-23).

10. Disconnect fan cable from processor stack fan (Figure 4-24).

CAUTION

CAREFULLY HANDLE BOARD TO PREVENT DAMAGE FROM ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE OR OTHER CAUSES. HOLD BY EJECTORS OR SIDE EDGES ONLY. DO NOT TOUCH EDGE CON-NECTOR CONTACTS OR BOARD PLANES. IMMEDIATELY PLACE BOARDS IN ANTISTATIC BAGS OR ON ANTISTATIC SURFACE.

12. Remove all boards by pulling out on ejectors to release boards from stack motherboard and sliding boards out of slots.

13. Remove 16 #1 Pozidriv screws, 8 from the top of the case and 8 from the bottom, that attach the 4 card gUides to the case, and remove the card gUides.

14. Loosen two slotted captive screws that hold clock board to stack motherboard.

15. Disconnect clock board from processor stack motherboard at inline connector.

16. Pull clock board straight out of motherboard and out of stack.

17. Remove four # 1 Pozidriv screws, two at top and two at bottom, that attach motherboard to case. Do not remove the two middle screws. They attach the motherboard supports to the motherboard.

18. Remove eight #1 Pozidriv screws, four at bottom and four at back, that attach the connector tie bar to the case.

19. Remove the motherboard and its attached supports and connector tie bar from the case.

20. Remove the connector tie bar and motherboard supports from the motherboard. Retain for installation on the replacement motherboard.

Display

The display must be removed before the rear cover can be removed. It must also be removed to service the display itself or to access the display interface module (DIM) or alpha/interface board.

The DIM or alpha/interface board is mounted to the bottom of the display. The DIM is used with the 98770A and 98780A displays. The alpha/interface board is used with the 98760A display.

1. UNPLUG COMPUTER POWER CORD FROM AC OUTLET.

2. Pull both display latches toward front of computer, unlatching display from support legs (Figure 4-7).

WARNING

THE DISPLAY MAY BE HEAW. TO AVOID DAMAGE TO EQUIP-MENT OR PERSONAL INJURY, TWO PEOPLE MAY BE REQUIRED TO LIFT THE DISPLAY (FIGURE 4-8)

3. Lift display from computer.
