Good evening. Ok I’ll go back to history. I’m involved in cycling, I’ve done a lot of cycling stuff and I’ve cycled the Lachine Canal. De Maisonneuve bike path was built because of me but I don’t take credit because it’s a very bad design. I’m involved with the projet Turcot 2505

committee. They know me for noise pollution.

When I first saw this plan for the park, I looked at it and the first thing that popped out is No. 1, there’s an elephant in the room which is the autoroute right beside the park. So, no matter what we talked about being nature and everything like that, when you got an autoroute 2510

that’s beside a park, you’re gonna be infested with noise. Period. Especially with the train tracks to its side.

LE PRÉSIDENT : 2515

So, is your question going to be around the noise?

M. PETER KRANTZ :

No. it’s more like the question is the accessibility of the park. The first thing I saw right 2520

away, is that park has got zero accessibility.

You can’t get into the middle, you can’t get in through the sides, you can’t get in from anywhere. So, if we’re going to build a park, the first thing you have to look at is the question of accessibility. That park has got zero accessibility. So if we could put all the green spaces and 2525

all that together, there is no accessibility. What’s the use of the park?

LE PRÉSIDENT :

So, let’s ask what provisions have been taken for…

2530

M. PETER KRANTZ :

Well, I’ve heard the provisions that you’re talking about, but just look at the side of the hospital. You come out on a hospital, there should be a bicycle path that joins up with De 2535

Maisonneuve bike path. There’s nothing in the concept for that.

LE PRÉSIDENT :

So, let’s ask about the…

2540

M. PETER KRANTZ :

And the other problem is the elevation. We look at the maps and we don’t see the elevation which is creating all the problems. That’s why we need the elevator. These are the 2545

problems that we’re not looking at. Wildlife, we could… yes, we could introduce moose but they have no space, there’s nothing there for the moose. So like, introducing wildlife in the space that cannot support it is useless. What we have to do is look at this park in a sense of how to make it human. Making it human, you have to make it accessible. And that’s the thing that is overlooked.

LE PRÉSIDENT :

So, let’s go with that. So, questions of accessibility and connections of the park with bike paths, among other ones, to the East and West, but North and South as well, I would 2555

imagine?

M. PETER KRANTZ :

Well, the North itself is what we’re lacking.

2560

LE PRÉSIDENT :

Donc, la question porte sur l’accessibilité et notamment, le lien du projet proposé avec les pistes cyclables nord, est, sud…

2565

M. DANIEL HODDER:

Accessibility, whether we have a park or not in this area, and connectivity is a big issue right now. We’re hoping to address some of those issues. But we can’t… The falaise is still 2570

going to be there. So, we have… there is going to be three links, one on either side of the park, and one in the center – North/South – we’re also trying to connect with the bike path system of the National park. 1.5 million bikers going through right on the edges of the site, so we are hoping that that will make it more accessible. And more generally, we think that the whole area in terms of bike paths, and that’s more with the Transport Department of the City is looking at 2575

that, but how does that change the grid work for the bike path’s system and we believe it’s a key, it becomes a key facility to promote exchanges, bike exchanges between the North and the South, East and West.

Yes, we need to reconnect and it is a very important issue. Connecting, you’ve touched 2580

on a… it is a big issue. We can try to make it more accessible, and that’s what we’ll try to do in every way we can. If you have ideas on how we can make it more, we would really like to have them, to hear them.

LE PRÉSIDENT : 2585

Merci. So, you have a second question? And again, we encourage you as well to let us know what your suggestions are.

M. PETER KRANTZ : 2590

One of the things that I noticed right away is you want to make it a pedestrian pathway and a bicycle pathway on the same paths.

M. DANIEL HODDER:

2595

Yes. That’s gonna be an issue. How do we “cohabite” on that North/South link, both?

Do we have a segregated pathways within that structure? Those are the things that we need…

some of the things that we need to discuss, especially if it’s not… there’s no elevator and it’s a six… we certainly going to have to divide that traffic, pedestrian traffic and bike paths… bike traffic. So, yes, those are…

2600

M. PETER KRANTZ :

The elevator should be a no question. Period.

2605

LE PRÉSIDENT :

Again, you will have the opportunity to let us know. Thank you very much.
