Abstract. — Mossbauer studies of J 19Sn impurities substituted for Sb in ferromagnetic conductor
MnSb (Te = 516 K) were performed in order to investigated the mechanism of the transferred hyperfine interaction in diamagnetic solutes. Measurements using a V(Sn) source were carried out in the temperature range of 0.2 < TjTa =£ 0.8. The measured isomer shift 3 = 2.21(1) mm s- 1
was typical to that of atomic Sn. The saturation field was found to be — 90 ± 5 kOe where the sign was deduced by applying an external magnetic field of 4.5 kOe at room temperature. The temperature dependence is considerably attenuated with respect to the bulk magnetization [1] which follows closely the Brillouin function. This anomaly can be qualitatively accounted for, by the reduced overlap of the Sn solute 5s outer shell with its M n3 + neighbours. The smaller radius
of the atomic substitute results in a decreased available volume with respect to that of the original Sb3 + by about a factor of 0.4. The internal field at the 1 1 9Sn solute adds an additional point to
the systematics of hyperfine fields in other—5 sp—solutes (I, Te ans Sb) in MnSb [2], which show a similar trend and magnitude to that obtained for an iron host.
