EN PHILOSOPHIE MODERNE À L’UNIVERSITÉ LIBRE DE BRUXELLES (ULB)
Au sein du département de Philosophie, Éthique et Sciences des Religions et de la laïcité de l’Université libre de Bruxelles, une bourse doctorale de 3 ans est à attribuer dans le cadre du projet ARC sur Les transformations de la raison pratique dans la philosophie moderne avant Kant dirigé par le Prof.
Arnaud Pelletier (https://www.ulb.ac.be/recherche/presentation/fr-arcpelletier.html). Au sein de ce projet, qui comporte trois volets, le ou la candidat-e pourra travailler sur l’un des deux sujets suivants : soit Leibniz : Raison pratique et Science de la prudence
L’axe principal de ce premier sujet sera d’envisager la philosophie pratique de Leibniz en étudiant particulièrement la genèse, l’évolution et les difficultés du projet d’une « science de la prudence ». La redéfinition de la raison pratique qui s’y joue pourra être, par exemple, confrontée tant aux projets contemporains de « science morale » qu’à l’horizon leibnizien d’une sagesse comprise comme « science de la félicité ».
soit La primauté de la Raison pratique avant Kant
L’axe principal de ce deuxième sujet sera celui de la primauté de la raison pratique dans la philosophie pré-kantienne (par exemple, et sans exclusive, chez Thomasius, Crusius et Baumgarten en ce qui concerne le XVIIIe siècle) afin d’interroger les différentes manières de penser la normativité propre de la raison pratique, et son lien avec la raison théorique.
Le travail doctoral peut être rédigé en français ou en anglais, mais le ou la candidat-e doit pouvoir présenter ses travaux et prendre part aux séminaires en français. Dès la première année, il/elle devra suivre le programme doctoral, participer activement aux travaux du Centre de Recherche en Philosophie (http://phi.ulb.ac.be/) et du Groupe de recherche en philosophie moderne, et présenter ses travaux à la fois dans des colloques et des publications. Certaines tâches pourront être demandées dans le cadre du projet ARC (organisation de colloques, etc.).
Conditions :
- être titulaire d’un Master en Philosophie (ou justifier de sa réussite en 2015) - avoir une bonne connaissance de la philosophie moderne
- être capable de présenter ses travaux en français (écrit/oral)
- une maîtrise suffisante du latin et de l’allemand (écrit) est souhaitable Durée : 36 mois, à partir du 1er octobre 2015.
Montant : env. 1880 EUR nets/mois.

IN EARLY MODERN PHILOSOPHY AT THE UNIVERSITÉ LIBRE DE BRUXELLES (ULB)
Within the Département de Philosophie, Éthique et Sciences des Religions et de la laïcité at the Université libre de Bruxelles, there is a vacancy for a fully funded 3-year fellowship in the context of the ARC project
„Transformations of practical reason in early modern philosophy prior to Kant”, directed by Prof. Arnaud Pelletier (https://www.ulb.ac.be/recherche/presentation/en-arcpelletieren.html). Within this project, which has three parts, the candidate will work on one of the two following issues:
either Leibniz: Practical reason and the Science of prudence
The main focus of this first topic is to address Leibniz’s practical philosophy through the particular investigation of the project of a « science of prudence » (i.e. of its genesis, evolution and challenges). The new conceptualization of practical reason should also be compared to both the contemporary projects of a "moral science" and the Leibnizian scope of wisdom understood as a "science of happiness".
or The primacy of practical reason before Kant
The main focus of this second topic will be that of the origin and ensuing modifications of the idea of a "primacy of practical reason" (over theoretical reason) in pre-Kantian philosophy (addressing, for instance, authors like Thomasius, Crusius or Baumgarten as far as the 18th century is concerned) in order to investigate the different ways to address the genuine normativity of the practical reason and its relationship to the theoretical reason.
The thesis can be written in French or in English, but the candidate must be able to present his/her research and to take part in seminars in French. From the first year, active participation in the doctoral program and the activities of the Research Center in Philosophy (http://phi.ulb.ac.be/) and of the Research Group in Modern Philosophy, as well as contributions to journals and international conferences are expected. The candidate may have small administrative tasks (organization of conferences, etc.) within the ARC project.
Requirements: - MA in Philosophy (or a justification that it has been passed in 2015) - Good knowledge of early modern philosophy
- Written and oral competence in French
- A minimum command of Latin and German would be an asset Duration: 36 months, starting October 1, 2015
