MEDICAL USE OF DIACETÏLMORPHINE

In accordance with resolution /Sb5.R257"^ the Director-General requested all Member States and Associate Members, in 1950,to inform him of their views and those of the medical profession concerning the necessity for the use o ^ t h e dispensability of dlacetylmorphine.
This inquiry, reviewed b y the Expert Committee on Drugs Liable to Produce Addiction, showed that 50 Member States have discontinued, or are -willing to

discontinue^ the medical use of diacetylmorphine. Subsequently, the Executive Board at its ninth session requested the Director-General "again to ask those States which have not yet answered his first inquiry regarding diacetylmorphine, and those which do not yet consider it possible to discontinue its medical use, whether or not they can do without the drug in the interest of international public health and safety … " (resolution EB9.R96). о
The governments in question were accordingly informed of this resolution and asked for the desired information^ The response to both enquiries to date may be smimarized as follows :
