Partnering for effectiveness

• Partnering as a One UN: the African Regional Forum for Sustainable Development (AFRSD) and the Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM)

• Enhanced partnerships with the African Union and the African Development Bank through the Joint Secretariat Support Office (JSSO) with a view of ensuring coherence, coordination, effectiveness and efficiency

• African Union - United Nations Framework for the implementation of the 2063 and 2030 Agendas: reinforcing the peace, security and development nexus

• Strengthen traditional partnerships and develop new strategic partnerships within the continent and globally within global policy engagements such as the UN High-Level Policy Forum, the G7, G20, G77+1, TICAD, FOCAC and OECD

• Leveraging the private sector, civil society, academia and philanthropists through intergovernmental committees of experts (ICE) and Business Forums

• Develop and design new and innovative ways to finance Africa’s priority agenda: financing for the development agenda, the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063 • Support private sector development, including of institutions underpinning the creation of new and innovative financing tools • Coordinate with other international financial institutions, the private sector, regional development banks, and United Nations agencies

SUBREGIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT

Responsible for implementing ECA subregional activities for development, the five subregional offices of ECA are specialized in selected thematic areas, to ensure that priority issues of concern and development challenges faced by member States in their respective subregions are appropriately addressed.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING

The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), a subsidiary and training arm of ECA based in Dakar, is responsible for the expansion of capacity development, advisory and policy dialogue programmes and activities targeted at mid-career and senior officials of African Governments.

OBJECTIVE: Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals To gauge impact, ECA measures the achievement of the Goals and Agenda 2063. To facilitate greater alignment of the work of ECA with the Sustainable Development Goals and systematic tracking of ECA contributions in order to advance the attainment of the Goals in Africa. This analysis is expected to guide efforts to revisit and, if necessary, strategically align programmes of work to maximize relevance, efficiency and effectiveness of their individual contributions. The overall programme of work of ECA is organized around nine interdependent and complementary subprogrammes (SP), as follows:
