Abstract - The Onsager theory for the isotropic-anisotropic phase transition in a solution of rod-like particles is extended to the case of solutions that contain a mixture of rod-like and disk- like particles. Dependent on the total concentration of the part- icle and the fraction of rods and disks, one finds, in addition to the isotropic phase, two uniaxial nematic phases and a biaxial nematic phase.
