ICRIM 2020, Interoperability for Crisis Management: Increasing Organizational Resilience

The workshop on Interoperability for Crisis Management: Increasing Organizational Resilience – ICRIM 2020 is the fourth of the workshop series promoted and organized by the thematic group TG2 Enterprise Interoperability for Crisis management of InterOP-VLab. It aimed at providing an outlook of the research on how interoperability solutions for crisis management could increase resilience of organizations as enterprises or those operating in smart cities. Three papers were accepted. They address crisis management in enterprises from different perspectives: economy, safety and technology transfer.

The first paper An approach to support enterprises during an economic crisis written by Ibrahim Koura, Frédérick Benaben, and Juanqiong Gou proposes an approach that supports enterprises in flexibly choosing relevant collaborative partners during economic crises. A use case from the automotive industry is also presented to illustrate the prediction and selection process for collaborative partners.

The second paper Towards a Framework for Definition of Enterprise Safety Indicators written by Francesco Costantino, Antonio De Nicola, Giulio Di Gravio, Andrea Falegnami, Riccardo Patriarca, Massimo Tronci, Giordano Vicoli, and Maria Luisa Villani presents a three-phases framework for the definition of indicators on enterprise safety performance aimed at increasing organizational resilience.

This is based on a collection of business processes, ontology modeling and the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM).

The third paper Towards a unified approach of interoperability to facilitate the transfer from research to industry: application to crisis management written by Sébastien Truptil, Philippe Limousin, Louis-Pierre Bergé, Radhouene Azzabi and Dubois Hubert presents the Criz’Innov French project aimed at filling the gap between research and stakeholders of crisis management by proposing a software application and a middleware based on Event-Driven architecture, which facilitate the use of the results of research and development projects in relevant crisis situations.

After the presentation of the papers of the authors, all the participants of the ICRIM 2020 workshop discussed about the future of crisis management taking into account the experience of COVID19 pandemic and the need to go beyond waterfall crisis management approaches. This discussion clearly opens the door to an innovative vision of crisis management, including new considerations regarding its spatial and temporal framing and significantly underscoring the need for better and deeper interoperability to support the scale, scope and integration required for the future of crisis management.
