Preface

The 6th edition of the Workshop on Ontology and Semantic Web Patterns (WOP2015) is a part of the series of workshops addressing the topic ofontology and semantic web patterns as best practices. The workshop acts as a gathering point for the ontology design pattern community for semantic web and linked data. The aim of this workshop is twofold: (i) providing an arena for proposing and discussing good practices, patterns, pattern-based ontologies, systems etc.;

and (ii) broadening the pattern community that is developing its own “language”

for discussing and describing relevant problems and their solutions.

WOP2015 was held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA, co-located with the 14th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC2015). In this edition, the workshop hoped to leverage the U.S. GeoVoCamps community whose activity is centered on ontology design pattern modeling for the geosciences and other related application areas, and looked to strengthen the ties with the more tra- ditional pool of participants in WOP, which centers around initiatives such as ontologydesignpatterns.org.

WOP2015 was a full-day workshop and its program included an invited talk, paper presentations, poster session, breakout groups and plenary discussion. The invited talk was given by Krzysztof Janowicz and was entitled “Ontology Engi- neering: A View from the Trenches”. Altogether, WOP2015 received 6 research paper submissions and 8 pattern paper submissions. From them, the Program Committee selected 3 research papers, and 7 pattern papers for the presentation at the workshop. All pattern papers were also presented in the poster session.

We are very grateful to members of the Program Committee without whom the workshop would not have been possible. We thank our invited speaker, Krzysztof Janowicz, for the inspiring talk. We also thank the organizers of the 14th International Semantic Web Conference for hosting WOP2015 at ISWC 2015. Finally, we thank all participants of the workshop for their lively partici- pation.
