The evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a scientific endeavor has radically changed focus in the las decade from purely individual intelligent behavior to include the social phenomena emerging from interaction of individual intelligent agents.

The argument we’ll present is twofold. First, we will review how the inherited no- tions of intelligence and rationality in scientific fields were shaken and remade by the AI paradigm, by introducing time, computational cost and uncertainty. Second, we will present the claim that understanding social and collective phenomena requires to rethink again the notions inherited notions of intelligence and rationality.
