Paris 5eChez le
lapin,
le caecum revêt uneimportance particulière
par sa taille et par les fermentations microbiennes dont il est lesiège
- enparticulier
celle de la cellulose avec formation d’AGVcomme dans le rumen des
polygastriques. D’après B ARCRO FT,
McANALLY et PfiILLIPSON(igç 4 )
et CooLS et
JEUNIAUX (i 9 6i),
les AGV sont absorbés in situ.L’étude
que nousentreprenons
se proposed’approfondir
les mécanismes deproduction
et
d’absorption
non
significative) ;
Cette chute à 15 h est hautement
significative
parrapport
aux valeurs de m h et de 17 h 30. La différence entre les valeurs à m h et 17h 30 estprobablement significative.
Chez le
lapin
aujeûne
alimentaire ou aujeûne
stercoral(pose
d’un collier pourempêcher
lacaecotrophie)
ou aujeûne
total(alimentaire
etstercoral), quelques expériences comparatives (
4
pourchaque cas) permettent
de constaterprovisoirement
que :-
pendant
lejeûne
alimentaire et lejeûne total,
il y a un abaissementprévisible
desAGV ;
-
pendant
lejeûne stercoral,
le taux d’AGVaugmente. Quand
l’animal seréalimente,
le taux s’élève encore et
dépasse
même la normale. Il le fait aussi pour lejeûne total ;
-
quant
à la matièresèche,
onpeut
voir le contenu seliquéfier,
surtout lors dujeûne total ;
tandis que, chez lelapin normal,
la matière sècheaugmente légèrement
au cours de lajournée.
Des essais
préliminaires
dechromatographie
enphase
stercoral nepeut
être mise en corrélation avec
l’augmentation
d’AGVremarquée
ici. Le faitqu’il
y ait cette augmen- tation dans lejeûne
stercoral et non dans lejeûne
total esttroublant,
mais nosquelques expériences
ne nous
permettent
pas de conclure.SUMMARY
PRODUCTION OF VOLATILE FATTY ACIDS IN THE CAECUM OF THE RABBIT The caecum of the rabbit is
particularly important
because of its size and the microbial fermentations localizedthere, especially
that of cellulose withdevelopment
of volatilefatty
acids
(VFA)
as in the rumen ofpolygastric
animals.According
toB ARCROFT , McArrnLr.Y
and PxitLirsoN(1 944 )
and COOLS andJ EUN I AUX ( 19 6 1 ),
the VFA are absorbed in situ. The aim of the
present study
was todefine
moreaccurately
themechanisms
ofproduction
and
absorption
of the VFA in the caecum. We first studied thenyctohumeral
variations of thedry
matter and total VFA determinedby
means of the steamdistillation
method.New Zealand
adult,
male rabbits fitted withpermanent
caecum fistulae were used. The rabbits were fed a mixed feed adlibitum (Extralabo C y ).
The fistulated animals survived three to four months. The chemical
composition
of the cacumcontent
variesaccording
to the feed and whetheror nor
coprophagy
ispractised. Therefore,
we first studied the Normal rabbit : 20-29 results show that :- the
dry
matter varies littleduring
theday,
from 23 p. 100to 24 p. 100(insignificant variation) ;
This
drop
at 15.oo h ishighly significant
whencompared
with the values at 11.00 h andy.3o h.
The difference between the values at 11.00 h andz!.3o
h isprobably significant.
In the
fasting
rabbit either stevcovalfasting (bearing
a collar toprevent coprophagy)
ortotal
fasting (alimentary
andstercoral),
for the moment severalcomparative experiments ( 4
ineach
case) show
that :-
during alimentary fasting
and totalfasting
there is apredictable lowering
ofVFA ;
-
during
stercoralfasting
the amount of VFA increases. When the animal startsfeeding again,
there is another increase in the amount of VFAwhich
even exceeds the normal. The same result is obtained after totalfasting ;
- with
regard
to thedry matter,
the contents become moreliquid, particularly
when thereis total
fasting, while,
in the normalrabbit,
thedry
matter increasesslightly during
theday.
Preliminary
trialsusing
gaschromatography
have shown that of the three acidsdetected (acetic, butyric, propionic) butyric
aciddisappears
more than the others(almost completely)
when the rabbit is
subjected
to stercoralfasting.
The acceleration in transit that has been observed
by the authors in
the case of stercoralfasting
cannot be correlated with the increase in VFA described here. It is difficult toexplain
an increase with
stercoral fasting
and not with totalfasting,
but theexperiments
we have carriedout do not allow a conclusion to be drawn.
