ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE SCHOOL NEWS St. Thomas School students enjoyed a Halloween Dance Party on Thursday, October 28th! Many thanks to Miss Hawley for playing all the great music!
Mrs. Neffinger’s fourth and fifth grade science class recently completed a STEM project that was perfect for the season - PUMPKIN LAUNCHERS! The students used the Engineering Design Process to build a launching device that would propel a candy pumpkin through the air and attempt to hit a target. They worked cooperatively to brainstorm ideas, draw prototypes and finally create their launchers. The students truly enjoyed putting their creative, engineering minds to work.
Ms. Curran’s seventh and eighth grade language arts classes write letters and send creative handmade greeting cards to the infirmed and elderly each month.
Many people will call or have loved ones call to let us know how much they enjoy the correspondence they receive from their special St. Thomas friends! If you have a loved one or know of a friend or neighbor who would benefit from a friendly letter or card, please call the school office with their name and address, 739-4131.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY AT ST. THOMAS
We will meet the second Wednesday of the month (December 8th) in the Parish Center, 89 Pine Street, from 9 – 11 a.m. to knit Prayer Shawls. A shawl wraps and warms the one who wears it, but a prayer shawl provides more - it embraces and comforts the wearer with the love and prayers of the maker and the faith community. The purpose of this ministry is to present the shawls and enfold the recipients in prayer.
Recipients of the shawls may be people who are sick, who are undergoing medical procedures, who are grieving, our homebound, or who need to feel the love and support of the community during a difficult time in their life. It is a ministry for everyone; men, women, young and old, all can participate according to their ability. Many who do not knit or crochet support the ministry by contributing yarn to knit the shawls and/or gift bags for the shawls. Everyone can participate by praying with the makers of the shawls. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jeanne Wainwright, 785-5567, or Joyce Reichelt, 739-4779.

Thomas Parish, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089.

Thanks to all those who contribute to this ministry with donations of food, time, and monetary contributions.
The Parish Giving Tree
As we head into the Christmas season, it is time for us to take time to share with the many individuals and families in West Springfield who are in need.
This year we will follow the same protocol as last year and forego putting tags on the Christmas tree at Church in order to alleviate the need for social distancing around the tree. We ask that you put your own age appropriate tag on your unwrapped gifts.
Age groups range from infant through teenagers, as well as the elderly.
We are looking specifically for toys and games for younger children, and games and gift cards for teens;
and the elderly can use gift cards to grocery stores, department stores, and restaurants.
In addition, fast food restaurant gift cards are helpful to the Parish Cupboard. The gift cards are used to feed the homeless on the weekend when the Parish Cupboard is not open.
The Parish Giving Tree will start next weekend, November 20th and 21st, and continue through the weekend of December 4th and 5th. Please place unwrapped gifts under the Christmas Tree. All gift cards should be returned by way of the collection basket during Mass.
Thank you for your continued generosity in helping to make the Christmas season a little brighter for our neighbors in West Springfield.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mary or Mary Anne Flaherty at 734-6785 or by email at maryanneflaherty@comcast.net.
Our diocese will take up the national collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) next weekend, November 13th and 14th. Your support for this collection brings change to communities across the country and empowers those living in poverty to transform the places they live into reflections of the Kingdom of God.
In addition to making an impact nationally, those living in poverty in our own diocese are empowered through the 25% share of our collection that stays here. Please prayerfully consider how you are able to help CCHD this year. If you would like more information about the collection and the people it supports, visit www.usccb.org/
