L'Impératif !
Comme en français, l'impératif anglais exprime un ordre, une invitation, une interdiction.
Il se construit avec la base verbale (BV) à la fois à la forme affirmative et à la forme négative.
Forme affirmative Forme négative
1ère personne
Let's go to the cinema Let us go to the cinema
(allons au cinéma)
Let's not go to the cinema Let us not go to the cinema
(n'allons pas au cinéma)
2ème personne
Go to the cinema (va au cinéma) (allez au cinéma)
Don't go to the cinema (ne va pas au cinéma) (n'allez pas au cinéma)
3ème personne
Let her go to the cinema (laisse(z) la aller au cinéma)
(qu'elle aille au cinéma)
Don't let her go to the cinema (ne la laisse(z) pas aller au cinéma)
(qu'elle n'aille pas au cinéma)
A la première et à la troisième personne
Forme affirmative : let + pronom complément + BV.
Forme négative : let + pronom complément + not + BV.
A la deuxième personne Forme affirmative : BV.
Forme négative : don't + BV.
Remarque :
Il est possible d'apporter un sens emphatique à l'impératif en plaçant l'auxiliaire de conjugaison do ou le pronom you en tête de phrase.
Ex. : Do mark your words.
Faites bien attention à ce que vous dites.
Do come and visit us.
Venez chez nous (Surtout venez et rendez nous visite).
Ex. : You, shut your mouth!
Toi, tais-toi!

On emploie l'impératif pour donner des ordres ou des consignes, faire des recommandations ou interdire quelque chose à une ou plusieurs personnes.
L'IMPERATIF POSITIF
Pour un ordre simple on utilise : La base verbale.
Open the door! èOuvrez la porte!
Keep quiet! è Sois sage!
Si on veut insister on utilise : Do + base verbale.
Do tell me, please! è Dites-moi donc s'il vous plaît!
Si le demandeur s'implique dans l'action: on utilise Let us (let's) + base verbale.
Let's go home! è Rentrons à la maison!
L'IMPERATIF NEGATIF Pour un ordre simple on utilise :
Do not (don't) + base verbale
Don't write on this wall! è N'écris pas sur ce mur!
Si le demandeur s'implique dans l'action: on utilise Let us (let's) +not + base verbale.
Let's not tell Lucile the truth! è Ne disons pas la vérité à Lucile!
ALWAYS / NEVER et L'IMPERATIF
Always et Never sont toujours placés avant l'impératif
L'adverbe –never - étant négatif il interdit la présence de –not-.
Always listen to Lucile. è Ecoute toujours Lucile.
Never tell a teacher that he's wrong, it makes him unhappy.
Ne dites jamais à un professeur qu'il a tort, ça le rend malheureux.
SHOULD + L'IMPERATIF = CONSEIL
Pour atténuer un ordre, une consigne ou une recommandation et les transformer en conseil, on utilise
Should + base verbale.

Do et don't s'emploient parfois sans le verbe:
'Can I put the TV on?'- 'Yes, do!
'Je peux allumer la TV ? ' – ' Oui vas-y '' Don't !!!
Ne fais pas ça !!!!
