Antje Linkenbach teaches al Hcidtlberg University. Since January 1993 she has been engaged in a research project, funded by the Gennan Research Council, on public and private solutions to environmental degradation in Uttarkhand.

KarJ.Heinz Krimer is regional expen for Nepal at !he "Zcmralstelle fur AusLandskunde der Deutschen Stiftung fUr Intemationale Entwicklung" in Bad Honner. and Chainnan of me Human RighlS Forum Nepal t.V. Monika Krengel received her doctorate at Heidelberg University. She presently teaches at Heidelberg and Frankfurt Universities and continues research in Kumaon, focusing on property relation and moral codes.

John Whelpton is a free-lance writer on Nepalese affnirs based in Hong Kong. His translation of and commentary on Jang Bahlidurko Belilit-Ylflril was published by Sahayogi (1983) and his Kings, Soldiers and Priests: Nepalese Politics alld tile Rise 0/ Jall8 Bahadur Rana, 1830-1857 has been published in 1991 by Manohar. His bibliography, Nepal, was published in 1990 by Clio Press in their World Bibliogrd.phical Series.
