The stress corrosion resistance in the short transverse direction is equivalent to that of 2214 T6 alloy, hence not sufficient enough to allow the replacement of the 7000 series alloys.
The T8x52 condition corresponding to an ageing treatment of 12 H at 135O C, which is sufficient to obtain the property levels of 2024 T352 for thickness up to 150 mm (see table 8).

2.3 Conclusion
Under heat treatment conditions reaching the maximum strength, the 2091 and 8090 alloys show an insufficient ductility in the short transverse direction in the both cases of hand forgings and die forgings.
Research work is going on to replace high strength alloys such as 2214 or 7xxx.
On the other hand, under T8x52 cohdition, 2091 alloy shows properties equivalent to those of 2024 T352 for plates and forged parts.

OVERALL CONCLUSIONSBased on all the above results the precise use of A1-Li forgings is still being in- vestigated with customers, with attractive property combinations already available for some applications.
