Sixty-seventh session of the Regional Committee RC67/INF/5 5 October 2016 __________________________________________________________________________________

NEW CALEDONIA

On 30 September 2016, the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations at Geneva, Switzerland, informed WHO headquarters and the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific of its request for New Caledonia to participate in its own name, but without the right to vote, in the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific (the Regional Committee).

France wrote to WHO in its capacity as the country having responsibility for the international relations of New Caledonia. In its Note Verbale, France informed WHO that it has consulted with Member States participating in the Regional Committee and that no objection was received from any Member State in connection with this request. The Regional Director subsequently responded to the Government of France as per the attached letter dated 4 October 2016. Accordingly and consistent with Article 47 of the WHO Constitution and past practice, the Regional Director will be pleased to make an announcement at the sixty-seventh session of the Regional Committee, shortly after the adoption of the Agenda, welcoming New Caledonia to participate in the Regional Committee in its own name, but without the right to vote.
