RÉSUMÉ
L’analyse génétique
dupoids,
significatif
sur lepoids
etl’âge
à lapuberté
dont il
explique respectivement
15,9 p. ioo et 13,1 p. 100de la variance. L’effet(père» est signi-
ficatif sur les trois
premières
variables dont ilexplique respectivement
9,9 p. 100, io,i p. 100 et 5,7 p. 100 de la variance.Enfin,
l’effet « mère » n’estsignificatif
que sur les deux variablesreprésentatives
de laprécocité
sexuelle dont ilexplique respectivement
22,6 p. Ioo et 20p. 100 de la variance. Les estimations de l’héritabilité desquatre
variablesprécisées
sontrespectivement :
0,44 ;
0,¢6 ;
contemporaines
issues ducroisement : verrat Landvace X truie
Lavge-White.
GENETIC DETERMINISM OF SEXUAL
PRECOCITY,
OVULATION RATE AND NUMBER OF EMBRYOS IN THE SOW :HERITABII,ITY,
HETEROSIS EFFECTGenetic
analysis
of theweight,
age, ovulation rate and number ofembryos
at the firstoestrus has been made on data obtained from six successive series of animals born in
August
from 1966 to 1971,
respectively,
fed ad libitum and submitted todaily
heat controls from 70kg
live
weight.
The
components
of the variance of the first two variables were estimated on the basis of informations collected from6 49 purebred
sows(6oi Large-White
and4 8
Landvace sows bornonly
in1971 ), daughters
of6 5
sires and 233 dams. This number of animals was reduced to 474 for the ovulation rate and 304 for the number ofembryos, respectively.
The combined effect of year and breed on
weight
and age atpuberty
wassignificant
and
explained
15.9 and 13.1 p. ioorespectively
of the variance .The «sire»effectwassignificant
on the first three variables and
explained
9.9, io.i and 5.7 p. Toorespectively
of the variance.Finally,
the « dam » effect wasonly significant
on the two variablesrepresentative
of sexualprecocity
andexplained
22.6 and 20.0p. Toorespectively
of the variance. Estimation of the heri-tability
of the fourprecited
variables were : 0.44,0 . 4 6,
0.23 and 0.12,respectively.
Estimations of heterosis effect were made
by comparing performances
of 241purebred
sows controlled in 1971 and 1972 to those of 329
contemporary
crossbred animals : Landrace male XLavge-White
female. Almost inexistent for theweight
atpuberty,
the heterosis effectwas about 8 to 10p. Ioo for the age at
puberty,
3.5 p. 100 for the ovulation rate and 8 p. 100 for the number ofembryos.
The ovulation rate
being
not heritableenough
and tooslightly
correlated with thenumber ofembryos
it is notpossible
to obtain agenetic improvement
of the second variableby
selection of the first one.
Finally,
the age atpuberty
issufficiently
heritable to be fitted for efficientselection ;
however, a morerapid improvement
of this character can be obtainedby crossbreeding.
