SUBJECT SPECIFICATIONS AND WORKING DRAWINGS FOR BUILDINGS

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Prompted by an inquiry from the Architectural

Institute of' British Columbia, the Building Standards Section of the Division of Building Research sent out a questionnaire to the building officials of twenty-five major oities in

Canada. In it they were asked if specifications are required, as well as working drawings, before a building permit is

ゥウウセ・、 in their particular city.

The survey indicated that the majority of cities do require detailed specifications and working drawings but only for large bUildings. The term "large buildings" was not defined, however, except in two cases in which they were

described as costing not less than $20,000 in one case and $30,000 in the other. If the working drawings are complete in detail, some cities do not specifically demand specifi-cations.

A synopsis of the replies received from the ques-tionnaire is given in Table I. :
