Community and group approvals to nominate the Palestinian art of embroidery to the UNESCOS Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of
Humanity.
We are the undersigned:
We came to a meeting at the Ministry of Culture on July 25 , 2019 in order to pmiicipate and give advice on the elements of heritage that represent the Palestinian people, and we agree all that the Ministry of Culture is doing about Palestinian embroidery, customs, traditions, practices and· rituals related to it, including collection and inventory, and we have shown our free approval, and Our free informed consent to present this cultural element for his record on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity because it expresses the Palestinians wherever they are and because it is a heritage component linked to sustainable development hundreds of years ago.

We are the Popular Art Centre in EI-Bireh/Palestine, founded in 1987 as a Palestinian Non-governmental organization (NGO), the Popular Art Centre (PAC) has succeeded over the years to disseminate and promote arts and culture throughout Palestine. PAC is the house of a unique and a huge collection of Palestinian traditional tunes from various parts of Palestine. "The Palestinian traditional songs and music archive" is a research project initiated in 1994 to preserve the rich Palestinian heritage.
PAC was the first NGO to provide training in Palestinian traditional dance "Dabke" in 1991. The dance school project developed a structured dance program mainly of Dabke, aiming at preserving Palestinian heritage. PAC has organized the first heritage festival in 1989 and continued consecutively every year until 1992; it was the largest local festival. In 2008, PAC has revived the Festival, to include dance groups from different areas and communities. Our dancers wear the traditional dress during their shows with Palestinian embroidery, and the popular image is not complete in Dabke without the embroidered dress that the dance groups wear while performing.
We support the heritage of the Palestinian embroidery heritage "practices, skills and rituals associated with it", which is one of the elements of the National List of Elements of the intangible Palestinian cultural heritage, and we see that we are aware in advance of what is done by the Department of the National Register of Intangible Heritage, Ministry of Culture to inventory the element in preparation for his candidacy on heritage Global, This certificate was issued to confirm our free, prior and informed consent to the registration of the element on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage as one of the traditional crafts associated with the customs and practices that continue to represent the Palestinian wherever they are and which have been inherited for hundreds of years. In tegration of Palestinian Embroidery Art in · Curriculum
Believing that embroidery is one of the Palestinian folk arts inherited through generations, developed over time into a craft, and accompanied by the creation of new models with high aesthetic values inspired from the originality of this craft, the Ministry worked to integrate this Art in the Palestinian Curriculum, in order to introduce it to the generations, protect it, and present it as one of the symbols of the national identity.
The Curriculum sought to highlight the role of the Palestinian women, especially those living in the countryside, who excelled in Embroidery Art and used it in many areas in life, decorating their homes, dresses and private tools. Their decorations were inspired by the drawings, colors, and ornaments in their country and surrounding environment.
The interest in Embroidery Art arose for being one of the Folk Arts which connects the past and the present in terms of the distribution of colors and forms. Wearing Palestinian folk dresses in the cities increased in the past years, as a motive to preserve the heritage and protect it.
Because Embroidery and its different forms is a character of the Palestinian people and part of their national heritage and social slogan, we are committed to introduce the generations to this needle-thread, deep-rooted traditional art and all its forms and colors decorating jackets, scarves, pillows' covers, kofeyeh, and bed sheets.
Owing to the fact that Palestinian embroidery has different schools and trends that differ from one place to another in terms of design, used colors and threads , or the embroidered spaces, a woman' s region, village, or city can be identified from her dress.
The Palestinian folk costume, decorated by needle with colored threads, has appeared since thousands of years. Therefore, this deep-rooted Palestinian art should be added to UNESCO'S world heritage list.
In full harmony with the Ministry's vision and philosophy, the Palestinian Curriculum Development Center (PCDC) has given great importance to the Palestinian heritage, through adding · quality to education, improving its outcomes, and connecting it e land and people. 1. A .ribbon with Palestinian embroidery decorations surrounding the front and back covers in parallel with the Palestinian flag and Kofeyeh, in a clear sign to what this trilogy represents to us as Palestinians. The Palestinian textbooks also 4Icluded multiple related concepts and contents.
2. In the Academic Stream textbooks, the heritage content; including . Embroidery, was presented directly or indirectly in terms of terms, concepts, · activities, pictures, or drawings, · including different humanitarian sciences like Arabic Language, National and Life Education, National and Social Education, Social Studies, Historical
Studies, and Arts and Crafts.
3 . . The contents of heritage including the Art of Embroidery were integrated as full units or lessons in some textbooks like in the Social and National°
Education, National and Life Education, Arabic language, and Arts and · Crafts.
4. In the Vocational Stream, through vocational and technical prograrp.s, (7th - 9th) - grade school students are exposed to different vocations.
Eighth graders, for example, are trained on the skills of designing and making clothes and Embroidery.
