FUR THER MEASUREMENTS OF THE VIBRATIONS OF AN INDUSTRIAL CAMERA

In October 1963 vibration measurements were made at the Northern Electric Company Limited, Research and Development Laboratories on an industrial camera to determine its ultimate resolution. The factors involved were discussed and reported in DBR Technical Note No. 407. Since that time the camera has been relocated and modified. The purpose of the present measurements was to determine any improvement in vibration levels and also to investigate the proposed location for a new camera.

PROCEDURE

The apparatus used was the same as in the previous instance, an M. B. velocity sensitive transducer, Type 120, a dc amplifier and a galvanometer recorder.

Vibration measurements were made at three positions on the floor, セッ」。エ・、 as follows: Position 1 - 3 ft from the north wall and 9 ft from the west wall; Position 2 - 3 ft from

"

the north wall and 4 ft from the west wall; Position 3 .. 6 ft from the north wall and 4 ft from the west wall. -- Measurements wer e also made on the north wall, 4 ft above the floor and 9 ft -from the west wall, and at representative points on the camera.

OBSERVATIONS

The results are summarized in Table 1. On comparing the present measurements on the camera with those reported previously, it can be seen that the vibration levels have been reduced by factors of two to five. Comparisons made between the vibration levels on the floor in the pr evious case and

those made recently show that the present location is quieter by a factor of about ten. The floor is quieter than the wall and it is to be expected that if a new camera were installed on the floor, its performance would equal that of .the present camera.
