MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE EUROPEAN WEEK IN SPAIN

((Apart from the list of organisations that you have sent us today, there are at least the following: USTEC-STEs in Catalunya and STEE-EILAS in Euskadi-Navarra)).

There have been two preparatory meetings about the European week. In the first one, all the organisations which are already working on the FSIPE –Foro Social Ibérico por la Educación, Iberian Social Forum for Education- agreed to support this call. Then there was a first press conference in which this decision was announced.

In the second one the organisations decided to celebrate a second press conference in Madrid during the week of action, which should be reinforced with the presence of an European colleague; finally this person is going to be Richard Hatcher, from NUT, UK. As you have already informed, the different materials and logo are being shown in working centres, web pages and so on.

At the same time, apart from these activities that will take place in Madrid, several actions are in course in the different territories.

Here are some of them:

PAÍS VALENCIÀ

The Public School Platform (unions, parents, students) has joined this European initiative with a demonstration on Wednesday 11 th May and different leisure activities in relation with this. Besides, there will probably be a students strike in the morning.

Teachers´ delegates have subscribed the call and Valencia Social Forum is going to support it with a conference sing about public services´ privatization.

ASTURIES

(6)

Several initiatives are on the run, all of them in support of public schools and formally linked to this European Week of Action.

On Sunday 8 th May will be the beginning with a very special party in Gijón, with the active implication of schools and high schools.

During the week Richard Hatcher, Aida Terrón and another colleagues are going to give some lectures.

And, last but not least, on 14 th there´s going to be a compromised walk between the most importants city of the area, Oviedo and Gijón, in defence of the Asturian Public School.

NAVARRA

Three activities in Pamplona: a press conference, a lecture by the Belgian colleague Nico Hirtt and a gathering for the public school, with the presence of unionists, families and students.

EUSKADI

There will be the formal support of the Public School Platform and some initiatives around this, as a press conference in Bilbao.

CATALUNYA

Special relevance will have different activities around the Diada per l`Escola Publica, linked to the European Week and its purposes.

There will also be a lecture by the colleague Pablo Gentili, in the Social Forum.

GALICIA

The teachers´ delegates committee supports this initiative

and is going to send the call to the educational authorities,

apart from distributing and supporting the call in the different

working centres and presenting it in a press conference.

(7)

There is a specific support of the teachers´ delegates committee in León, Albacete, Ciudad Real, Madrid and Logroño, and several different activities are being prepared in other cities.
