Living  Heritage   Heritage  in  Danger   Community  Par8cipa8on  

Preamble  –  ‘communi8es,  in  par8cular  indigenous  communi&es,   groups  and  in  some  cases  individuals,  play  an  important  role   in  the  produc8on,  safeguarding,  maintenance  and  recrea8on   of  intangible  cultural  heritage.’  

2003  Conven8on:  Defini8on  

‘Intangible  cultural  heritage  means  the  prac8ces,  representa8ons,   expressions,  knowledge,  skills  –  as  well  as  the  instruments,   objects,  artefacts  and  cultural  spaces  associated  therewith  –   that  communi8es,  groups  and,  in  some  cases,  individuals   recognise  as  part  of  their  cultural  heritage.    

This  intangible  cultural  heritage,  transmiOed  from  genera8on  to   genera8on  is  constantly  recreated  by  communi8es  and  groups,  

…  and  provides  them  with  a  sense  of  iden8ty  and  con8nuity,  

thus  promo8ng  respect  for  cultural  diversity  and  human  

crea8vity.’
