Call for Post-doc
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title : Postdoctoral Fellowship in urban biocide transport and transformation Job Summary :
We are looking for a highly creative, qualified and motivated postdoctorate-level young scientist, in the context of the ongoing collaborative research project DECIDE on the transport and transformation of urban biocides from building facades to groundwater.
The project involves (i) the development of in situ investigation of biocide transformation in surface, waste and ground-waters from grab and passive sampling; (ii) the acquisition of hydrochemical and stable isotope data, i.e. using multi-element compound-specific isotope analysis of biocides, from laboratory and field studies; (iii) the mechanistic interpretation of pesticide dissipation at different scales of the urban environment.
Please submit your application in one single PDF file, including a letter of motivation, detailed CV, list of publications, copies of certificates, recommendation letters from at least two referees, and all other relevant information the scientific contact, Gwenaël Imfeld

Job Description :
We are looking for a highly creative, qualified and motivated postdoctorate-level young scientist, in the context of the ongoing collaborative research project DECIDE on the transport and transformation of urban biocides from building facades to groundwater. The project is coordinated by Earth & Environment Strasbourg (ITES-UMR 7063; https://ites.unistra.fr/) and funded by University of Strasbourg (https://www.unistra.fr/). Group leader and supervisor is Gwenaël Imfeld, senior research scientist at CNRS.
Very little is known about the fate of urban biocides from building plasters and paints into soil and water. The successful candidate will help developing conceptual approaches and new integrative experimental tools to follow-up and understand transformation processes of urban biocides. Work to be performed by the postdoctoral fellow will include:
• Evaluation of biocide transformation in urban settings (field and lab), sampling approaches and chemical analyses
• Application of methods for stable isotope analysis of biocides in environmental compartments
• Interpretation and prediction of biocide dissipation processes and their contribution to the overall biocide fluxes
• Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with external partners
• Preparing peer-reviewed scientific publications and presentations for scientific conferences.
Main research field :
Geosciences / Environmental science
Offer Requirements :
• A PhD degree in contaminant biogeochemistry or hydrogeology and/or environmental chemistry within the last four years (candidates with a PhD thesis after 1 January 2017 will be considered)
• A corresponding publication record in peer-reviewed journals
• Experience in analytical chemistry and possibly in compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA)
• Good command of the English language (written and oral)
• Communication skills and an ability to work in an interdisciplinary team with scientists, engineers, and technicians. A demonstrated international research experience is required.
• A working knowledge on application of pollutant transformation, urban pollutants and chemistry, passive sampling approaches, hydrological modelling, stable isotope analysis and/or CSIA will be additional assets.

Eligibility criteria :
The position is for 18 months. We offer salary and social benefits according to French public sector regulations, depending on the experience.
