Abstract. - It has been demonstrated recently that the strong temperature dependence of the

1 5 lEu isomer shift in some europium intermetallic compounds can be described in terms of inter-

mediate valencies (interconfiguration fluctuations ICF) [I]. We report on high-pressure studies on Euo,zsLa0,75Rh~ and EuPt2. two compounds on which the ICFs have already been studied [I]. The measurements were performed between 4 K and 300 K at pressures up to 70 kbar by means of the 21.6 keV resonance of 15lEu.

In Eu0,25La0,75Rh2, the resonance lines of the intermediate valence states are strongly shifted towards the Eu3+ valence state with pressure ; in terms of the ICF model these shifts can be inter- preted as an increase of Eexc, the energy separation between the Euz+ and Eu3+ state by 5 K/kbar. The results are to be discussed in the light of variation of the lattice constant induced by either temperature, pressure or alloy composition. A first account of the results has been published else- where [2].
