What has the CHA done
for you lately?
• The CHA received a $381 418 grant from the Canada Millennium Partnership Programtocreate, in partnership with Chinook Multimedia of Edmonton,an Internet gateway to Canadian history.
• The CHA has launcheda vigorous lobbying initiative to secure thepublic release of twentieth-century census materials. We will keep you postedas tothis initiative’s progress.
• The CHA maintains an attractive and informative Website. Most recently, ail the presidential addresseshâve been posted. Checkusout at :wv w.yorku.ca/research/cha/cha-shc.
• In thelate fall the CHAissueditsvariouscalls for prizes. Rightnowseveral juries are reading dozens ofsubmissions in an effort to selectandrecognize excellence in historical scholarship in Canada.
• In order tosendapromisingdoctoral orpost-doctoral student to thequinennial meetingof the International Congress of Historical Sciences, the CHA created, with initial funding fromtheMontreal Committee of the ICHS, the StanleyBréhault RyersonScholarship. The scholarshipwill be awarded for the first timethis yearin order tosend a younghistorian, who has already beenselected toparticipate, to Oslo, Norway.
• The CHA continuestooversee an active publication programme. In additiontothe Journalof theCanadian Historical Association,the CHA publishestwobooklet sériés, the Historical Booklet Sériés andthe Canada’y Ethnie Group
Sériés.
• This year’s annual meetingwillbe held at the University of Alberta. Alocalcommittee is busy making arrangements to welcome historians from across Canada.

• A la fin de l’automne, la S.H.C. a lancé ses demandes de candidatures pour lesdiversprix qu’elle offre. En ce moment même, plusieurs jurys sont en train delire des douzaines de propositions afin dechoisir et de couronner les chercheurs canadiens les plusremarquablesdansle domaine historique. • Grâceà un financement initial du Comité montréalais du
Congrèsinternational des sciences historiques, la S.H.C.a créé labourse Stanley-Bréhault-Ryerson, qui permettra à un étudiant méritant du niveau doctoral ou post-doctoral de participer à laréunionquinquennale du CISH. Cettebourse sera attribuée pour lapremière fois cette année; ellepermettra d’envoyer à Oslo, en Norvège, un jeune historien déjà désigné.
• La S.H.C.continueàgérer un programme actif de publication. En plus de laRevuede la Société historiquedu Canada, ellepublie deux collections de brochures : celle des
Brochures historiquesetune autreportant surLes groupes ethniques du Canada.
• L’assembléeannuelle decette année aura lieu à l’University of Alberta. Un comité local s’emploie à tout préparer pour accueillir des historiensvenusdes quatre coinsdu Canada. • Enfin, soucieux de respecterun budget desplus modestes, le
rédacteur du Bulletin assemble celui-ci à 3 heures du matin sur la table de sa cuisine,àgrand renfort de découpageet de collage!
