In 1998 North Atlantic Missiology Project will award ten places for24-hour research forums in both theUK andUSA, for emerging scholars in the history and theology of Protestant missions, 1740 to 1968. Massey Medal: The Royal Canadian Geographical Society

invites university departments, leamed societies, and other orga-nizations to submit nominations for the MasseyMedal, awarded

annually by the RCGS. Its purpose is to recognise outstanding personalachievementinthe exploration,development ordescrip­

tion of Canada’s geography; nominees need not be professional geographers. Only Canadian citizens (with some exceptions in

spécial circumstances) are eligible. TheMassey Medal isaward­

ed onlyto individuals, not groups. Ail nominations for1998 prize

Molson Prize: The Social Sciences and Humanities Research

Council is seeking nominations for the Molson Prize, thefore- most honour for contributions to Canada’s cultural Hfe. The

prizes of $50,000 are awarded annually, onein the fieldof social

sciencesand humanities, the other in the arts, in récognition of an exceptional contribution in thosefields. The formerisadminis- tered by SSHRC,whilethe latter is administered bythe Canada

Council. The criteria ofthe sélection processstipulate that the candidatesmusthâve demonstratedoutstanding achievement and that they should still be very active. A university or leamed society wishing to nominate an eligible candidate in the social

sciences or humanities should provide SSHRC with thenameand thelatestcurriculum vitae, and three tofive letters of support, by

November 15, 1997. Nominations should be forwarded to Mr. MelMacLeod, Administrator, Molson Prize, 350 Albert Street, P.O. Box 1047, Ottawa, ONK1V 5V8. Names of the lauréates

will be announced in March 1998.

Prix Molson : Le conseil de recherches en sciences humaines (CRSH) sollicite des candidatures au PrixMolson,le prix le plus

prestigieux décerné en reconnaissance de contributions à la vie

culturelle canadienne. Desprixde 50 000 $ sont attribuéschaque année,l’un dansle domainedes sciences humaineset l’autre dans

The Peace History Societyinvitessubmissions for theCharles Debenedetti Prize in Peace History, to begiven to the author or authors of an outstanding journal article published in English in 1995 or 1996, dealing with peace history. This mayinclude articles on the history of peace movements, responses to peace and war issues, the relationship between peace movements and

other reform issues, comparative analyses, and quantitative

The Photographie Historical Society of Canada has announced three new awards/grants to encourage original

research into Canada’s photographie history. The $500.00 Student Award, sponsoredby Kodak Canada, is presented for the best student paper based on original research into anyaspect of

Canadian photographie history. A second prizeof $250.00isalso available. A $500.00 research grant is awarded annually to a current PHSC member for original research into Canada’s photographie history. The third grant is for up to

$1000.00 to aid the publication ofbooks or mônographs ororig­

inal research into Canada’s photographie history. Information:

Zdenka Volavka Research Fellowship. Purpose: to stimulate

and support thestudyof the art historyoftheindigenouspeoples

of Africa and North Americathroughfield work and to provide opportunities for comparative study through field activities and relatedcollectionsresearch. Eligibility: open to graduate students

and post-doctoral scholarsfor the 1997compétition. Applicants must be engaged or proposing to engage in field-based art

historical research, which may include comparative study in

collections as well as field activities, focusing on the art of

indigenous peoplesof Africa and/or North America. Submissions must include: brief proposai outline, currentc.v., transcripts of ail previous work, and 2 letters of reference (one must be from

an arthistorian). Applications should be forwardedby 15 April 1997, to The Zdenka Volavka Research Fellowship, Faculty of
