Article abstract

The foundations of the “new philanthropy” take a critical view of social organization and political action and tend to impose a new way of managing social issues. In Quebec, the Fondation Lucie et André Chagnon is typical of this movement. Research has revealed some of the impacts the foundation has had on groups working in the area of social and community action. The findings reflect a new logic of action that corresponds to new paradigms found in both science and governance, and that are competing with those on which years of practice in the field are based.
