Como o estudo realizado utilizou apenas a literatura para o levantamento dos riscos, pesquisas baseadas na aplicação do modelo teórico através de opiniões de especialistas podem ser realizadas onde novos riscos podem ser mapeados. A aplicação também pode ser realizada dentro do escopo de uma empresa específica para verificar como os riscos se comportam dentro de um contexto prático ou mesmo em diferentes setores industrias (e.g., indústria alimentícia, indústria automobilística, indústria têxtil, etc.).
A perspectiva puramente teórica deste estudo também abre espaço para pesquisas quantitativas, onde a probabilidade e o impacto dos riscos mapeados podem ser avaliados. Além disso, investigações voltadas a estratégias de mitigação e monitoramento dos riscos levantados podem ser estruturadas.
Outra sugestão para trabalhos futuros é a investigação dos riscos puramente tecnológicos, pois apenas o setor industrial foi pesquisado, assim, novos estudos podem ser realizados para verificar se novas dimensões podem ser mapeadas em escopos de pesquisa diferentes (e.g. Saúde, Cultura, Smart Cities, etc.) que não o econômico, social, ambiental ou tecnológico.
Através do estudo quantitativo dos riscos do item 4.2.6, pode-se perceber que existem poucos trabalhos voltados para a perspectiva ambiental abrindo espaço para pesquisas nesta área. Isto também é percebido para questões econômicas que aparecem apenas na oitava posição no ranking de representatividade dentro do portfólio estudado. Além do mais, não foram verificados trabalhos que estudassem a viabilidade da Indústria 4.0, tornando-se um ponto importante para pesquisas futuras.
