5.4. Orientations futures

Comme c‟est le cas dans bien des études, les observations faites dans le cadre de cette thèse ont fait place à de nouvelles questions de recherche. Entre autres, il serait pertinent de mieux documenter la dynamique de la population de Codium à long terme, afin de mieux définir le cycle de croissance et de délogement des thalles sur les rhizomes de zostère. Le caractère épiphyte de Codium n‟a été que peu observé ailleurs dans le monde et étant donné que l‟invasion étudiée est relativement jeune, il serait intéressant de suivre l‟adaptation possible entre la zostère et Codium. Bien que Codium ne soit pas identifié comme étant un parasite (c.-à-d. organisme vivant aux dépens d‟un autre), il est toutefois possible que si

Codium devenait plus envahissant, cela entraîne une mortalité importante de la zostère ce

qui par conséquent finirait par nuire à l‟établissement même de Codium.

La dynamique de croissance et délogement de Codium favorise l‟accumulation de grande quantité d‟algues et de fragments dans les herbiers et les habitats adjacents. Il serait donc important de documenter l‟effet de cette accumulation sur les caractéristiques physico- chimiques du sédiment (Norkko et Bonsdorff 1996a), sur la structure des assemblages benthiques (Norkko and Bonsdorff 1996b; Norkko et al. 2000) et aussi comment cette biomasse est transférée aux niveaux trophiques supérieurs (Rossi et al. 2011; Krumhansl et Scheibling 2012). Il serait également intéressant de mieux définir les facteurs qui favorisent l‟ancrage de Codium aux rhizomes de zostère. En effet, tout au long de cette thèse, j‟ai eu l‟occasion de discuter avec plusieurs chercheurs qui étudient également Codium et il semble que la formation d‟aussi dense population attachée aux rhizomes soit un phénomène qui a été observé que dans l‟est du Canada (Garbary et al. 2004, Drouin et al. 2012).
