The 17th Topical Meeting of the International Society of ElectrochemistrywasheldinthePalaisduGrandLargeinSaint Malo,Francefrom31Mayto3June2015.Thethemeofthemeeting was“MultiscaleAnalysisofElectrochemicalSystems”,andinvolved ISEDivision4(ElectrochemicalMaterialsScience)andISEDivision 7(PhysicalElectrochemistry).About180scientistsfrom35coun triesparticipatedinthemeeting.
Themeetingwastheoccasiontopresentrecentadvancesand applicationsoflocalelectrochemical techniquesand techniques forsurfacecharacterizationinvariousfieldssuchasmaterialsfor energy, energy conversion and storage, electrochemistry in biological systems, electrochemical sensors and biosensors, nanostructuredmaterials,corrosionandprotection.Animportant partof themeeting wasdedicatedtosimulationandmodelling (computational physicalchemistry). Including two parallel ses sions,thepresentations werescheduled inplenarylectures(2), invitedoralcommunications(20)andcontributedoral commu nications (73) which allowed both experienced and young scientists to present their work. In the two poster sessions, 70 presentations gave the opportunityto have complementary fruitful discussionsin anatmosphere offriendshipthrough the discovery of the hosting country (crepe and oyster tastings). Exhibitors of electrochemical equipment were also present to demonstratetheirproducts.DuringtheBanquet,heldinthePalais du Grand Large, a special cake was offered by the Company Origalystocelebratetheir5thanniversary.
Participantshadtimeduringthedayandtheeveningtotake advantageofthecharmofSaint Malowithitsexceptionalsetting, thefortsandramparts.AprivatevisitofMont Saint MichelAbbey wasorganizedattheendoftheMeeting.
ThepaperspublishedinthisSpecialVolumeofElectrochimica Acta, after a rigorous review and selection process, give an overviewofthedifferenttopicspresentedatthemeeting.Many thankstotheEditor in Chief,SergioTrasatti,forthemanagement ofthisSpecialIssue.
