15 Projects involve only those who believe in it. A longitudinal study of projects, performances and performances

Jean Pralong

The internal mobility project is recognized as a «good practice” by the HRM community. Nevertheless, we know few about the way projects develop and projects influence on effective behaviors, like competencies development. To fill this gap, we define project as the result of an interaction between performance and organizational norms. We test this model with a semi- longitudial, 83 subjects survey. The results show that individuals craft projects primarily in function of normative hierarchies. We also demonstrate that the influence of projects on competencies development is heterogeneous.

33 Cultural differences and MNE performance. Cultural distance revisited through the concept of organizational and occupational proximity Michaël Viegas Pires

This article revisits the concept of cultural distance. First, it integrates the con- tribution of an interpretative approach of national cultures. Second, it adopts a multiple level perspective. This paper especially addresses national, organiza- tional, and occupational cultures, with a focus on their interactions. Finally, it integrates these elements in a theoretical model of the relationship between cul- ture and MNE performance. These theoretical developments contribute to solve the cultural distance paradox.

45 Innovation and development of organizational capabilities.

An experimentation in the Luxembourgish banking sector Pierre-Jean Barlatier, Mathieu Lambert, Anne Rousseau

This paper presents the main results of an action research aiming at the experi- mentation of a methodological process to support organizational innovation within the framework of the Luxemburgish banking sector. The deployment of this process lies on the co-conception of a common organizational referential, as a genuine “boundary object” between the knowledge management process, able to regenerate the organizational capabilities, and the problem-solving pro- cess, able to detect malfunctions.

75 Is that all research should be conducted? Performativity, overgrazing and responsibility of researcher in finance

Hélène Delacour, Jessica Fouilloux, Sébastien Liarte

This article questions the responsibility of the researcher in management in focusing on the role of the research in finance in the financial crisis of 2007.

Researchers in finance have developed new tools to provide sources of funding for economic activity. This development leads to an overgrazing situation, ie an over-exploitation of resources that conducts finaly to a deterioration of the envi- ronment in whole, namely the financial crisis. This article underlines also how institutional environment of researcher in finance influences the orientation of researchs, thus promoting more or less a situation of overgrazing.

93 Responsibility of business academics educating finance students Philippe Gillet, Henri Zimnovitch

Responsibility differs in the epistemology of hard sciences and in that of busi- ness administration. Finance seems to belong to both domains and some of its professionals - the “quants” - come from the best engineering schools. Based upon an analysis of the courses contents of these schools, the article questions the type of responsibility that is presented to students and consequently that of business academics.

111 Studying ethnicity: the construction of researchers’ responsibility facing sensitive topics

Amina Béji Bécheur, Maud Herbert, Nil Özçaglar-Toulouse˘

This article aims to analyze the ethical issues faced by a group of researchers during a project which turned out to be sensitive and perceived as such as the project unfolded. The story of a collective experience of a research about eth- nicity offers the opportunity to clarify the notion of sensitive topic and how the research team’s responsibility builds up gradually in interaction with context and partners, as well as in relation to the group’s collective identity and person- al identity of researchers.

129 From Candide to Zarathoustra. Researcher’s engagement and the transformative power of ethnographic research Isabelle Corbett-Etchevers

This article dwells upon the concept of « engagement » to question the resear- cher’s social and political responsibility. This confessional tale of an ethnogra- phic research in a company shows how the researcher’s initial involvement, of a contractual and phenomenological nature, evolved over time to become a form of political engagement. More than a life story, this article highlights the transformative power of research, showing how involvement of a phenomeno- logical nature can lead to political engagement.

145 The criminal responsibility of management scholars Anne-Sophie Courtier, Bernard Leca

This article focuses on the criminal prosecutions that management scholars might face if breaking the French law in the course of their research activity.

Often ignored by researchers the criminal law applies to their activities and must be carefully considered. We detail the criminal offenses which potentially apply to the works by researchers during the research itself, as well as during its diffusion. The potential articulation between this criminal law and the ongoing development of professional deontology in management research and ethics committees are eventually discussed.
