Expediciones es un experimento en el que confluyen el arte, la investigación en ciencias sociales y la educación popular. Este proyecto de cooperación europea reúne a un equipo integrado por artistas, investigadores en ciencias sociales, pedagogos y niños de las ciudades de Tarragona, en España (enero de 2013), de Rennes en Francia (marzo de 2013) y de Varsovia en Polonia (mayo de 2013). Con la colaboración del tejido asociativo y de las familias de los barrios de Ponent, de Maurepas y de Praga, se trata de valorizar los recursos culturales invisibles de unos territorios a menudo estigmatizados.
La finalidad del proyecto se inscribe en un horizonte de transformación de nuestra visión de la ciudad :
- Cuestionar las ideas preconcebidas en relación con los barrios llamados populares.
- Replantear la idea de la expedición etnográfica para “deconstruirla”, también a nivel de las actitudes en ocasiones neocoloniales que se aprecian todavía hoy en nuestras disciplinas (arte, investigación, educación).
Expeditions is an experiment in which the paths of art, social science research and popular education meet. This European cooperation project brings together a team composed of artists, social science researchers, educators and children in the cities of Tarragona in Spain (January 2013), Rennes in France (March 2013) and Warsaw in Poland (May 2013). With these participants, and families from the neighbourhoods of Ponent, Maurepas and Praga, the project assesses the invisible cultural resources of those territories that are too often stigmatised. The aim of this project lies in the transformation of our perspectives of the city :
- Re-examining the preconceived ideas of neighbourhoods known as working-class neighbourhoods,
- Reinvesting the pattern for the ethnographic expedition to deconstruct it, including the current, sometimes neo-colonial, attitudes in our disciplines (art, research, education).

El presente seminario se anuncia como la primera cita de una serie de tres seminarios que tendrán lugar en cada una de las ciudades exploradas. Ofrece un espacio de trabajo colaborativo, de reflexión y de intercambio alrededor del cual se reúnen los exploradores, los colaboradores, los miembros asociados y los otros participantes, que brindan su visión externa. Asimismo, sentará las bases para reflexionar sobre el proyecto en sí y dialogar abiertamente sobre sus perspectivas críticas. Por ejemplo,
¿qué significa el conocimiento para un artista, un investigador o un pedagogo?
¿Cómo se construye? ¿De qué discursos y representaciones son responsables los artistas, los investigadores de ciencias sociales y los pedagogos? ¿Qué enfoque de investigación adoptar de cara a la interdisciplinariedad y la intervención social? ¿De qué manera nuestras disciplinas de investigación, de creación o de intervención social revierten el motivo histórico de la expedición? O,
¿qué relación tienen las disciplinas con ese motivo?
Hemos decidido centrar el seminario, más concretamente, en la cuestión de las estrategias y las colaboraciones interdisciplinares. Cada residencia de exploración se basa en condiciones de inmersión idénticas para cada explorador. Por lo tanto, hemos querido
cederles la palabra en primer lugar para favorecer así una participación más diversa y alargar el tiempo de debate.
Además, será una buena oportunidad para conocer las producciones artísticas, científicas, pedagógicas y sus procesos.
Posteriormente, aprovecharemos la segunda jornada para enriquecer el debate y presentar el proyecto dentro del contexto dinámico de la investigación y de los recursos ofertados por el territorio en el que se desarrolla Expediciones, aquí en Tarragona. Anna M. Bofarull presentará las primeras imágenes del documental que ha realizado durante las tres fases de residencia de la expedición.
En paralelo, el Museu del Port de Tarragona acogerá la “colección” de obras de arte, trabajos científicos y otros relatos de viaje que constituyen el tema formal de la producción del saber adoptado por el proyecto Expediciones. Esta exposición es coherente con la reactivación crítica de la fabricación y puesta en marcha del conocimiento, en la misma línea que la idea desarrollada por Bruno Latour según la cual no existe representación sin mediación.

Foreword
This seminar is the first of a series of three talks which will take place in each of the cities explored. It offers a space for collaboration, reflection and exchanges where explorers, partners, associate members and other leading figures are invited to lend an outside perspective.
It is an invitation both to reflect on the project itself and to promote a public discussion of its critical perspectives.
For instance, what is “knowledge” for an artist, a researcher or an educator, and how is it constructed ? For what discourse and representations are artists, researchers in the humanities and educators responsible ? What research stance should be adopted to meet the challenges of interdisciplinarity and social space ? How do our disciplines of research, creation and social intervention revisit the historical motive for exploration and what relationship do they have with it ?
More concretely, we have chosen to base this seminar around the question of strategies and interdisciplinary collaborations. Each exploration residence centred on immersion conditions that all explorers share. Our first aim was thus to give them time to speak by inviting multiple dialogues and
long discussion times. It will also be an opportunity to become more familiar with artistic, scientific and educational productions and their processes. We will continue with a second day of events to deepen the discussion and open up the project within its living context both in terms of research and the resources offered by the territory where Expeditions is being developed here in Tarragona.
Anna M. Bofarull will present the first images from the documentary which she made during her three exploration residencies.
At the same time, the Museu del Port de Tarragona is housing the “Collection”
of artworks, scientific work and other travelling tales that make up the formal basis for the production of knowledge undertaken by the Expeditions project.
This exhibition is part of a continuing critical reactivation of the production and staging of knowledge, along the same lines as the idea developed by Bruno Latour, whereby there is no representation without mediation.

Expediciones en Tarragona
La intervención que investigadores y artistas han realizado en este proyecto europeo ha hecho aflorar la necesidad de actuar en los barrios populares. Es en estos territorios donde se mueve la Europa que crece, la nueva Europa.
Tan a menudo por debajo de la alfombra.
Expediciones es un proyecto que experimenta en el territorio social, multidisciplinar, comparativo, internacional: estos atributos componen un prisma por el que la mirada del vecino se abre a nuevas perspectivas que hemos de saber aprovechar. Estas miradas empiezan hoy. La utopía de los que todavía soñamos sería cambiar las cosas. El proyecto ambiciona que al menos se hagan visibles y se planten delante de los que las padecen y también de los que las provocan, de un modo sorprendente y argumentado.
Expediciones es un proyecto coral, el sumatorio de la voz de muchísimas personas e instituciones, pero a quien siempre se ha de recordar y dejar bien patente es al vecino, ciudadano, residente, habitante, morador, súbdito, lugareño, como se le quiera llamar, gente del barrio que nos regala su voz y su creatividad colectiva, que nos concede su voz, su sufrimiento y su valentía. Durante gran parte del proyecto, esta voz ha sido representada por niños. Empezaron siendo nuestros ojos y acabaron siendo nuestro corazón: en cualquier caso, ha hecho nuestra experiencia mucho más rica, y ha dotado a nuestro trabajo de sentido, como quien siembra sobre tierra fértil.
Expeditions in Tarragona
The intervention carried out by researchers and artists in this European project has highlighted the need for action to be taken in working class neighbourhoods. It is in these areas where the growing Europe, the new Europe, is taking shape, and this is so often swept under the carpet.
Expeditions is an experimental project in the social, multidisciplinary, comparative and international fields: these attributes comprise a prism through which neighbours’ eyes are opened up to new perspectives, and we have to know how to make the most of them.
These new perspectives start today. The ideal for those of us who still dream would be to change things. The project seeks, at least, to make these things visible and to bring them before those who are suffering from them and those who cause them, in a surprising and convincing manner.
Expeditions is a choral project ; the sum of the voices of many people and institutions, but it is particularly important to remember and place at the forefront the neighbours, citizens, residents, inhabitants, denizens, locals, whatever they might be called ; the people from the neighbourhood who give us the gift of their voice and their collective creativity ; who grant us their voice, their suffering and their courage. For a considerable part of the project, this voice was represented by children.
They started as our eyes and ended up as our hearts : in any case, they made our experience much richer, and made our work meaningful, like sowing on fertile land.

Estrategias y territorios comunes entre sociología y sociolingüística en Expediciones
El proceso del proyecto Expediciones implica la posibilidad de desarrollar estrategias comunes de análisis de la realidad social por diferentes científicos con diferentes intereses y orientaciones. En cuanto a eso, David Dueñas, sociólogo de Tarragona, quiso estudiar las relaciones sociales y su representación espacial sobre el barrio, utilizando, en el caso de Tarragona, constelaciones estelares como metáforas reflexivas acerca de cómo funciona la sociedad y hacia dónde nos conduce. Por su lado, Nolwenn Troël-Sauton, sociolingüista de Rennes, estuvo trabajando en la representación lingüística de la percepción del barrio por parte de las personas que viven en Campclar y en el centro de la ciudad.
Nuestra propuesta en este seminario es crear un diálogo para explicar los resultados que hemos obtenido, pero también, para abrir la discusión y encontrar así los territorios comunes entre ambas disciplinas al debatir sobre la forma en que trabajamos y sobre los resultados obtenidos. El marco interdisciplinario propuesto por los proyectos, buscando colaboraciones entre artistas, investigadores y educadores, para alcanzar nuestras metas individuales y colectivas, representa un buen escenario para proponer nuevas metodologías y hacer frente a nuevos problemas. El objetivo de ese diálogo es ayudar a entender nuestras adaptaciones a las realidades y debatir sobre la forma de afrontar los problemas prácticos al hacer la investigación orientada a la práctica, siendo útil para una amplia gama de espectadores.
Common strategies and territories between sociology and sociolinguistics in Expeditions
The Expedition project process involves the possibility of developing shared strategies of analysis of the social reality by different scientists with different interests and orientations. Regarding to that, David Dueñas, sociologist from Tarragona, wanted to study the social relations and their spatial representation on the neighbourhood, using, in the case of Tarragona, space constellations as reflexive metaphors about how society works and where it leads us. By her side, Nolwenn Troël-Sauton, sociolinguist from Rennes, had been working on the linguistic representation of the perception of the neighbourhood by people who live in Campclar and in the city center.
Our proposition on this seminar is to create a dialogical intervention explaining the results obtained by each other, but also to open the discussion to find the common territories between both disciplines by discussing the way we worked and the results obtained. The interdisciplinary framework proposed by the project, searching collaborations between artists, researchers and educators to reach our individual and collective goals, represented a good scenario to propose new methodologies and to face new problems. The goal of that dialog is to help to understand our adaptations to those realities and to discuss about the way to face practical problems when doing practical oriented research, being useful for a wide range of spectators.

Trabajando con el grupo de niños del Casal l’Amic
Conoceremos cómo los niños y las familias del Centre Obert del Casal l’Amic vivieron la residencia, y las reflexiones sobre las producciones artísticas y científicas, de los educadores y de la documentalista, como parte activa de las intervenciones y como objeto de estudio que fueron. Reflexionaremos con ellos también sobre los diferentes momentos que vivieron, el primer contacto, cuando se explicó el proyecto a las familias y a los niños, el inicio de las residencias, los momentos de las producciones y la difusión.
Por otra parte, queremos hacer hincapié en el tiempo después de la residencia: durante la construcción del juego L’illa de Campclar y el día de la inauguración de la exposición en el barrio. Las reflexiones se visualizarán a través de un vídeo grabado por los niños y las familias. El Centre Obert trabajó de un modo muy próximo a Dorota Porowska-Podleśna.
Ella expondrá las bases de su trabajo con los niños a través del concepto del laberinto ;
“Gracias a su estructura matemática, el diagrama del Laberinto de Pylos tiene carácter universal y puede completarse independientemente del lugar, tiempo y contexto sociocultural. Su impetuoso recorrido perdura contemplando formas y giros repentinos. La perspectiva se transforma al volar, derrumbándose repentinamente para rebotar contra el suelo y expresar así emociones entusiastas, gritos. El laberinto llama la atención porque se corresponde con la naturaleza esquemática de la vida. En Tarragona hemos diseñado nuestro propio laberinto basado en comportamientos obstinadamente repetitivos : los puntos débiles y fuertes del espacio creado. Este laberinto se ha convertido en garantía de nuestra seguridad.”
Working with the children of Casal l’Amic
We will examine how the children and families from the Centre Obert del Casal l’Amic experienced the residency, and reflect on the artistic and scientific productions of the educators and of the documentary maker, both as an active part of the interventions and as subjects of study. We will also reflect with them on the different moments they experienced : the first contact, when the project was explained to the families and the children. The beginning of the residencies ; the experiences of production and completion.
On another note, I would like to highlight the time after the residencies : during the construction of the L’illa de Campclar game and the day of the exhibition’s inauguration in the neighbourhood. The reflections will be shown in a video of the children and the families. The Centre Obert worked very closely with Dorota Porowska-Podleśna. It will reveal the foundations of her work with the children using the concept of the labyrinth :
“The diagram of the Labyrinth of Pylos, thanks to its mathematical structure, is universal and it can be accomplished in any given place, time and cultural and social context. The impetuous running dominated contemplating measures and sudden turns of direction. The perspective changed while flying, sudden falling upside down, then bouncing off the bottom and declaring enthusiastic emotions screaming. A labyrinth seems appealing because it corresponds to life’s schematic form. In Tarragona we created our own labyrinth consisting in stubbornly repeated behaviors, weak and strong spots of the created space. That labyrinth became a guarantor of our security.”

Después de una breve presentación de sus participaciones y producciones durante las expediciones, los dos exploradores se centrarán en la interacción entre los respectivos enfoques de sus investigaciones.
Plantearán la cuestión de la subjetividad en el trabajo artístico y sociológico sirviéndose de las herramientas utilizadas y de las reflexiones compartidas, y, en particular, por medio del mapa que ambos han trazado a su manera.
Además, hablarán sobre el proceso de acción y representación en un “barrio obrero” y la influencia de un entorno social determinado sobre él. Para terminar, iniciarán un debate en torno a la cuestión de las posibilidades reales de colaboración entre investigadores, artistas y habitantes de estos territorios.
Subjective geography
After a short presentation of their interventions and productions during their expeditions, the two explorers will focus on the interaction between their respective approaches of the research. Through the tools that they used and the reflexions that they shared, they will ask the question of the subjectivity in an artistic and sociologic work. Especially by the medium of the map that both of them have experimented, each of them in their own way. They will also discuss about the process of action and representation in a «working-class neighborhood» and how it could be affected by some defined social environment. Finally they would like to question the real possibilities of cooperation between researchers, artists and inhabitants in those territories.

Paisajes íntimos
Cartier Bresson decía que fotografiar es alinear la cabeza, el ojo y el corazón. Cuando se trabaja con personas en el espacio social, esa alineación también debe unir a cabeza, ojo y corazón de la persona que comparte la experiencia con el fotógrafo. Acercarse al otro y mirar a través de sus ojos, impregnarse de sus opiniones y llegar a sus sentimientos. Un camino utópico que requiere zapatos de complicidad para compartir la experiencia.
En Ponent, Tarragona, intento hacerme próxima a la gente a través de la fotografía: juego con los niños del Casal l’Amic, me gano su confianza, me dejan entrar en sus casas y en su entorno.
Conozco a más gente del barrio, y percibo dónde depositan su mirada. Registro su rastro, su presencia y su ausencia. Mi trabajo baraja aún expresiones abstractas. Busca sus límites, sus misterios, sus fronteras.
En Maurepas, Francia, continúo cargada de preguntas, pero el trabajo cobra coherencia. Visito a los vecinos. Fotografío a personas dentro de su hogar, mirando hacia el barrio, de espaldas a mí, para poderme identificar con ellos, para alinear mi corazón con el suyo ¿Qué es lo que ven que es invisible para mis ojos?¿Qué aire y que objetos nos separan?
Mi mirada se enriquece con las palabras de Nolwenn, la sociolingüista francesa, y se une a los pensamientos de las personas que visitamos, sin que unas estén al servicio del otro, encuentran el equilibrio de los sentimientos, el respeto en las reflexiones compartidas y la correspondencia en la mirada.
También presentaré la intervención en Tarragona de Unai Reglero dentro de Expediciones, en un vídeo donde explica las motivaciones que le llevaron a realizar la obra “Lo importante es la base”, compuesta de una gran pintada de más de 50 metros en el suelo de la plaza mayor de Campclar, y de 2 vídeos, uno con los niños del Centre Obert, y otro con opniones sobre los estigmas de Campclar.
Intimate landscapes
Cartier Bresson said that taking photographs consists of aligning the head, eyes and heart. When working with people in a social space, this alignment must also unite the head, eyes and heart of the person sharing the experience with the photographer. Becoming closer to others and seeing through their eyes, absorbing in their opinions and accessing their feelings ; a utopian path that requires the shoes of complicity for a shared experience.
In Ponent, Tarragona, I try to get closer to people through photography : I play with the children from the Casal l’Amic, I earn their trust, they let me enter their homes and their environment. I am getting to know more people from the neighbourhood, and I observe where their eye lands. I record their trace, their presence and their absence. My work still considers abstract expressions.
It looks for their limits, their mysteries, their frontiers.
In Maurepas, France, I remain full of questions, but the work is gaining coherency. I visit the neighbours. I take photographs of people in their homes, looking out to their neighbourhood, with their back to me, so that I can identify with them, and align my heart with theirs. What do they see that is invisible to my eyes ? What air and what objects separate us ?
My view is enriched by the words of Nolwenn, the French sociolinguist, and is combined with the thoughts of the people we visit, without either being at the service of the other. They find a balance of emotions, respect in shared reflections and correspondence in the gaze.
I will also present the intervention carried out by Unai Reglero as part of Expeditions in Tarragona, in a video in which he explains the motivations that led him to create the work “Lo importante es la base”
(“What matters is the basis”), comprising a large piece of graffiti measuring more than 50 metres on the ground of the main square of Campclar, and two videos, one with the children from the Centre Obert, and another with opinions on the stigmas surrounding Campclar.

Expedicions, el documental
La experiencia de todo el proceso de Expediciones, ¿cómo explicarlo? ¿Cómo mostrarlo? Esta es la primera pregunta que me planteé cuando se me confió hacer el documental de toda la experiencia del proyecto, convivir con sus protagonistas (artistas, sociólogos, pedagogos y los mismos niños y habitantes del barrio) en Campo Claro (Tarragona), Maurepas (Rennes, Francia) y Praga (Varsovia, Polonia).
Estar presente y mirar, observar a través de la cámara, ser testimonio de lo que se adivina durante el proyecto, los procesos de descubrimiento, de creación y de investigación que cada miembro del grupo experimentaba y que, a menudo, coincidían también con mi propio descubrimiento del barrio. Poner una cámara delante de la realidad del barrio, de personas que no están acostumbradas a mostrar su día a día a un grupo de personas ajenas a su realidad y hacerlo además con el acecho de la mirada atenta de las cámaras.
Este fue mi reto, como documentalista, estar presente para hacer visible con el documental, al mismo tiempo que buscar el anonimato y la discreción para no alterar la realidad.
La confianza y la cotidianidad, una vez que muchos de los niños y de la gente del barrio se acostumbraron a la presencia de la cámara, me permitieron convertirme en un testimonio del proceso de Expediciones. Más tarde, esta realidad ha pasado a través de mi propia reflexión, de mi propio filtro como creadora y el resultado final no es más que otra visión de las Expediciones, unas expediciones visuales y reflexivas surgidas del abanico de expediciones de este múltiple proyecto.
Expeditions, the documentary movie The experience of the whole process of Expeditions, how to tell it ? How to show it ? This is the first question I asked myself when I was entrusted with making a documentary movie of the whole experience, living with artists, sociologists, pedagogues, children and inhabitants of the neighborhoods in the Ponent (Tarragona, Spain), Maurepas (Rennes, France) and Praga (Warsaw, Poland).
To be there and look, to observe through the camera, to become a witness of what was happening during the project, the process of creation, discovery and research that each member of the group was doing, that was very often the same process I experienced discovering the neighborhood. To put a camera in front of the reality of the neighborhood, in front of people who are not used to that in their daily life and, moreover, facing them to a camera watching them carefully. That was the challenge for me as a documentary filmmaker : to be there in order to make visible through the documentary movie, but also to become anonymous and discreet enough not to alter the reality. Trust and everyday life, once many of the children and people in the neighbourhood got used to the presence of the camera, allowed me to become a witness of the whole process of Expeditions.
Later this reality has also passed through my own thinking and my point of view, through my own filter as a creator, as a filmmaker, and the final result is another point of view of Expeditions, a visual and reflective expedition arising from the multiple range of expeditions gathered through this project.
Zona de imaginación
El proyecto Expediciones está basado en un protocolo experimental interdisciplinario cuyo objetivo consiste en cuestionar el motivo de la expedición, que históricamente gira alrededor de las ciencias sociales, el arte y la pedagogía, en forma de una conquista de las representaciones, los valores y el conocimiento, y, en particular, en forma de viajes de exploración. Nuestro equipo interdisciplinar se ha encontrado en la tesitura de probar empíricamente los fundamentos históricos de nuestra actitud de búsqueda, exploración, participación e interpretación de los territorios sociales y culturales, conocidos aquí como “obreros” y “estigmatizados”. Esta comunicación ofrece un marco de reflexión en torno a las diferentes estrategias adoptadas, las dificultades y las evoluciones, que brindan además una visión que abarca las residencias de Tarragona, Rennes y Varsovia.
Zone of inventiveness
Expeditions is based on an interdisciplinary experimental protocol which aims to raise questions about the motive for exploration.
It has historically been employed in the social sciences, art and pedagogy in the form of a conquest of representations, values and knowledge, and more concretely, in the form of exploratory voyages. Our interdisciplinary team found itself empirically testing the historical basis of our attitudes in terms of research, exploration, intervention and interpretation of social and cultural territories, in this case so-called “working-class” and
“stigmatised” areas. This communication piece provides some initial reflections on the different strategies adopted, as well as on difficulties and developments, thus offering an overall view of the residences in Tarragona, Rennes and Warsaw.

Acción y sociología de la proximidad en barrios populares; del objeto al sujeto Se trata de un espacio de reflexión en el que se diferencian tres partes. En la primera, los autores exponen el planteamiento de la metodología y las bases de la sociología de la proximidad, como una forma de actividad sociológica centrada en la creación de dispositivos de carácter micro y su puesta en práctica en los barrios populares. En la segunda, se desarrollan algunos ejemplos concretos de dispositivos con los que se recoge información y se presentan algunos resultados de la utilización del análisis de redes y del análisis de movilidad espacial, así como de los imaginarios de las expediciones.
En la tercera, una persona vinculada a los barrios populares realiza una lectura personal y crítica de los procedimientos utilizados en la recogida de información. La sesión está enfocada a la discusión grupal de la metodología de la sociología de la proximidad como una sociología para la acción, en la que las personas que intervienen en el proceso de recogida de información no son objetos sino sujetos de la propia acción.
Action and sociology of proximity in working-class neighborhoods : from object to subject
It is a space for reflection, divided into three distinct parts. In the first, the authors reveal the methodological approach and the foundations of the sociology of proximity, as a form of sociological activity focused on creating micro devices and putting them to use in working-class neighbourhoods. In the second, some specific examples of devices used to collect information are developed and some results of the use of network analysis and spatial mobility analysis are presented, as well as the imaginaries of the expeditions.
In the third, a person linked to the working- class neighbourhoods performs a personal and critical reading of the procedures used to collect the information. The session is focused on a group discussion of the methodology of the sociology of proximity as a sociology for action, in which the people intervening in the information collection process are not objects, but subjects of their own action.
Entre el arte y la ciencia del encuentro Los participantes del proyecto Expediciones han salido al encuentro, al encuentro de un territorio y de una cultura, pero, sobre todo, al encuentro de un gran número de personas.
Encontrarse con el otro, con la alteridad, con el extraño y el extranjero, revela un arte que nos resulta familiar, que compartimos en nuestro día a día, pero que, a menudo, nos reserva momentos extraordinarios. Encontrarse es una situación habitual, pero hacerlo sistemáticamente constituye una fuente de asombro y perturbación. ¿Cómo encontrarse?
¿Existe el arte del encuentro? ¿Una ciencia del encuentro? Estas preguntas interesan tanto al artista como al sociólogo. El encuentro es la piedra angular de su trabajo (entrevistas, observaciones, etc.). ¿Cómo proceder? ¿Cómo provocar el encuentro? ¿Qué se intercambia en cada ocasión? ¿Cuál es la relación entre el sociólogo (o el artista) y las personas implicadas? La situación de encuentro es un elemento esencial. ¿Permiten los encuentros procedentes del proyecto Expediciones un intercambio auténtico? O, ¿son más bien fruto del malestar? ¿Han sido realizados sobre un plano de igualdad? O, ¿reproducen relaciones esencialmente jerarquizadas?
The encounter – between art and science
The participants in Expéditions left in search of encounters – encounters with a territory and a culture, but above all, encounters with a great many people. Encountering the other, encountering alterity, encountering the strange and the stranger… these are all part of the art of doing that with which we are familiar, which we all share in our daily life, but which nevertheless often provides us with extraordinary moments. Meeting one another is not an unusual situation, but is systematically a source of surprise and perturbation. How do you meet one another ? Is there an art of the encounter ? A science of the encounter ? These questions are of interest to artists and sociologists alike. Encounters are at the heart of their work. Sociologists can practise their profession only if they can set up meetings (interviews, observations, etc.).
How should you proceed ? How do you bring about an encounter ? What is exchanged during this time ? What happens between the sociologist (or artist) and the people involved
? The encounter is a major issue. Did the encounters resulting from Expeditions enable authentic exchanges ? Or on the other hand, were they a source of awkwardness ? Were they carried out on an equal footing ? Or did they reproduce relations that were essentially hierarchical in nature ?

En el espacio de debate de los educadores, inicialmente exlpicaremos el plan pedagógico del Centre Obert del Casal l’Amic y en particular cómo se ha aplicado efectivamente al grupo de niños con los que se ha trabajado.
También abordaremos el hecho de cómo se ha podido aprovechar las aportaciones del equipo de Expediciones por el Centre Obert del Casal l’Amic, cómo se ha encajado un proyecto artístico y científico tan complejo e invasivo para el niño, para intentar evitar que se torciera el camino formativo que el Casal propone. También hablaremos de los niños y las familias como mediadores i catalizadores del barrio, y si los niños que vienen al Centre Obert son representativos de los habitantes de barrio.
Preguntaremos a los educadores franceses y polacos cuál es su método pedagógico, en el contexto educacional de cada país, de ciudad y de barrio. Tanto la entidad francesa como la polaca pertenecen a una organización.
Intentaremos establecer paralelismos y diferencias. Cómo se ha aprovechado el proyecto, y cómo han percibido la aproximación del equipo al grupo de niños y familiares.
Round table with the pedagogues Anne-Catherine Pivard, coordinator of the Groupe de Pédagogie et d’Animation Sociale (GPAS) of the Maurepas neighbourhood (Rennes, France) and Andrzej Orlowski, from the Grupa Pedagogiki i Animacji Spolecznej Praga Polnoc (GPAS) of the Praga neighbourhood in Warsaw, Poland, will take part in the debate.
In the educators’ debate space, I will initially explain the pedagogical plan of the Centre Obert del Casal l’Amic and in particular, how it was effectively applied to the group of children involved. We will also examine how the contributions of the expeditions team were able to be used by the Centre Obert del Casal l’Amic, how an artistic and scientific project, so complex and invasive for a child, worked, while trying to avoid changing the training path proposed by the Casal. We will also discuss the children and the families as mediators and catalysts in the neighbourhood, and whether the children who come to the Centre Obert represent the residents of the neighbourhood.
As moderator of the debate, we will ask the French educators about their pedagogical method, in the educational context of each country, city and neighbourhood. Both the French and Polish groups belong to an organisation and we will try to establish parallels and differences : how the project was used, and how the team’s approach to the group of children and relatives was perceived.

El arte de la exposición. Algunas reflexiones sobre las formas de exposición de colecciones y archivos En su célebre obra Juntos, Richard Sennet su- brayaba la importancia de ser conscientes en el intercambio de creatividad. En La conciencia del ojo escribía : “(…) si nos implicamos en lo que vemos en el mundo, seremos capaces de movilizar nuestros poderes creativos. En la ciudad moderna, estos poderes de creación de- berán tomar una forma particular y humana, que impulsen a las personas a prestar atención al exterior. Nuestra cultura necesita un arte de la exposición de sí mismo (…) [1]” ¿Cómo construir un proyecto de exposición que tiene en cuenta la complejidad de un proyecto cuya importancia reside en un “crear conjunto” y cuyo objetivo es un trabajo sobre las represen- taciones mentales de los territorios estigmati- zados? ¿Puede tal exposición, realizada a partir de la recogida de elementos de entrada no ar- tísticos, provocar un desplazamiento de la mi- rada cotidiana, de la consideración de nuestros suburbios y de la forma de colaborar, o, por lo menos, desmontar los lugares comunes? El ob- jetivo es analizar esta problemática a partir de algunas propuestas artísticas y delimitar mejor el lugar de la Expedición dentro del contexto artístico actual.

An art of the exhibition. Some thoughts on the forms of exhibition for collec- tions and archives
In his major work Together, Richard Sennett highlights the importance of awareness of sha- ring creativity. As far back as The Conscience of the Eye, he wrote : “[…] if we get involved in what we see in the world, it pushes us to use our own powers of creation. In the modern city, these powers of creation should take a spe- cial, human form, and make people look out- side themselves. Our culture needs an art of self-exhibition. [...] [1]”. How do you construct an exhibition project which takes account of the complexity of a project whose importance lies in “creating together” and whose chal- lenge is to work on mental representations of stigmatised territories ? Can such an exhi- bition, made up of a collection of non-artistic elements, bring about a shift in perception of the everyday, of our high-rise flats and forms of cooperation, or at the very least, enable a deconstruction of shared areas? It is a matter of analysing this issue through several artistic ventures and enabling a better understanding of the role of exploration within the current context of art.

el regreso de las eXpediciones
Colección de obras de arte, trabajos científicos y otros relatos de viaje acerca de las representaciones men- tales y de los prejuicios sobre los barrios conocidos como populares
Los exploradores están de vuelta. Sus maletas, cargadas de imágenes, documentos, obras de arte, trabajos científicos y otros “relatos de viaje”. Estos materiales se presentan como testigo de nues- tros esfuerzos de observación, de nuestros encuentros, de nuestras reflexiones, así como de las interpretaciones que cada explorador, ya sea artista, científico o pedagogo, ha realizado durante sus expediciones.
Este material, junto con el recuerdo de la experiencia, es en definitiva todo lo que nos queda para hablar de las representaciones y de los discursos de los barrios populares. Sin embargo, estos materiales que nos han traído, ¿nos explican tanto de la Expedición y sus miembros como de los territorios explorados? ¿La singularidad de unos 350 objetos nos permite dirigir una mirada introspectiva y crítica sobre el saber y el conocimiento que fabricamos, con el modelo de las expe- diciones que habilitan el desarrollo de la civilización occidental? He aquí la problemática central que la exposición de nuestro regreso de la expedición plantea desarrollar.
La colección de objetos se recoge en un catálogo detallado. Se preveé una instalación plástica en tres lugares: el Museu del Port de Tarragona, la Nizio Gallery de Varsovia y los alrededores de la Galerie Art et Essaie de la Universidad Rennes 2 y de la Criée en Rennes. Creemos que el valor del conocimiento que se atribuye a los trabajos presentados en esta colección reside también en la forma de elegirla y mostrarla. Por consiguiente, su exposición remata el proceso de fabricación del conocimiento adoptado y dirigido en el proyecto Expediciones. Esta operación, por lo tanto determinante, está a su vez marcada por el contexto y sus imperativos, la recepción otorgada a este catálogo, el nivel de colaboración entre los actores de la misma, el interés, el lugar y las funciones de cada uno.
A partir del mismo catálogo, descubrimos tres exposiciones diferentes como resultado de la elec- ción de los objetos y de su integración en los lugares. Aquí, en el Museu del Port de Tarragona, nuestra intención está ante todo motivada por la necesidad de reproducir el diseño museográfico que prevalece en este museo mediante una presentación didáctica de la valorización y conser- vación del patrimonio. Los elementos de la colección se integrarán en la colección permanente, presentados de la misma manera y diseminados a través de ella en la historia del puerto de Tar- ragona.

About the exhibition
returning From the eXpedition
A collection of artworks, scientific work and other tales of travel, all on the subject of mental representa- tions and prejudices surrounding working-class areas
The explorers are back. Their cases are packed with pictures, documents, artworks, scientific work and other tales of travel. This formal material demonstrates the efforts we have made in terms of observation, meetings, reflection, but also the interpretations that each explorer, whether an artist, scientist or educator, made during their expeditions.
This material, along with the memory of the experience, is all that we have left for our discus- sions about representations and discourse surrounding working-class areas. However, do the spread and diversity of ideas and objects brought back not tell us just as much about the expe- dition and its members as about the territories explored ? Does the singularity of these 350-odd objects enable us to cast an introspective and critical eye on the wisdom and knowledge that we produce, with the expeditions that led to the development of Western civilisation as a model ? This is the central question which the “returning from the expedition” exhibitions will develop.
The collection of objects brought back exists in a detailed catalogue. A plastic installation has been planned in three places : the Museu del Port de Tarragona, the Nizio Gallery in Warsaw and around the Galerie Art et Essai at University of Rennes 2 and La Criée in Rennes. We believe that the value of knowledge given to the works presented also resides in the manner in which these pieces have been chosen and displayed. As a result, exhibiting this collection adds the finishing touches to the process of producing knowledge launched and staged in the project Expeditions.
This operation, while influential in itself, is also influenced by the context and its key require- ments ; how this catalogue is received; the level of collaboration between those involved in this exhibition ; and everyone’s commitment, place and role.
In the same catalogue, we will discover three different exhibitions following on from the selec- tion of objects and their integration into the museum. Here at the Museu del Port de Tarragona, our intention is above all guided by the need to extend the museographic form which prevails in this museum, creating a didactic presentation that promotes and conserves heritage. As such, the items from the collection that are selected will be integrated into the permanent collection and presented in the same way ; through this collection, they will become a part of the history of the port of Tarragona.
