NOTICE

Index of Titles & Authors in Environmental Conservation,

1974-86

Compiled by Lynn Curme Edited by Nicholas Polunin Foreword by Mostafa K. Tolba

(available from the undersigned for US $20 or 30 Swiss francs — including postage)

T

he response to the notices, in our Autumn and Winter issues of last year, describing the above project of the Foundation for

Environmental Conservation, was so gratifying that we soon set

about its completion, editing, and printing. The response came mainly in the forms of letters of encouragement, donations, and even paid-up orders. Now our expectation is that the Index will be about 1 1/2 times the length of an issue of our Journal, in the selfsame format but with distinctive cover and spine, and will be available for distribution (from our address given below) for US $20 or 30 Swiss francs (postage paid in both cases) from the Winter of 1987-8.

In his Foreword to the Index, Dr Mostafa K. Tolba, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, writes of the unprecedented advances in environmental concern and studies that have taken place in recent years, and how 'The quarterly inter-national journal Environmental Conservation has chronicled that extraordinary evolution world-wide in thirteen unique volumes ... pioneering... the way to what is now popularly known as "sustain-able development",' and later repeating that it has been 'Over thir-teen years ... a leading source of new information on [such impor-tant topics as] stratospheric ozone depletion and the so-called "greenhouse effect" ... altogether constituting a unique chronicle of the environmental-conservational concerns of modern times.'
