Preface

The iStar workshop series is dedicated to the discussion of concepts, methods, techniques, tools, and applications associated with i* and related approaches. Following successful workshops in Trento, Italy (2001), London, England (2005), Recife, Brazil (2008), Hammamet, Tunisia (2010), Trento, Italy (2011), and Valencia, Spain (2013), Thessaloniki, Greece (2014) and Ottawa, Canada (2015), Beijing, China (2016), Essen, Germany (2017), Tallinn, Estonia (2018), this year, the 12th International i* Workshop (iStar’19) was held in Salvador, Brazil. As with previous editions, the objective of the workshop is to provide a unique opportunity for researchers in the area to exchange ideas, compare notes, and forge new collaborations. This year, the workshop was in conjunction with the 38th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2019), benefiting from our common themes and interests shared by the two events.

As with past editions, we kept the format informal so as to maximize interaction. Aiming at an inclusive and discussion-oriented workshop, the main criterion for paper acceptance in iStar’19 was relevance and potential for raising discussion. A 31-member program committee, consisting of scholars and practitioners with expertise and interest in the field, were involved in reviewing a total of 16 complete paper submissions. Each of the papers were reviewed by three program committee members. Of the submitted papers, all of them were accepted for presentation in the workshop and revised versions of the papers are included in the proceedings that follow. In the event, all the 16 accepted papers were given 15 minutes for presentation and discussion organized in 3 sessions.

In addition to the paper presentation sessions, the workshop, with MREBA workshop, included a joint keynote speech given by Professor Professor Matthias Jarke (RWTH Aachen University, Germany), entitled “Inter-Organizational Data Sharing: From Goals to Policies to Code”. The event closed with an open brainstorming session through a wall of ideas, the participants posted their key messages on particular topics, followed by a plenary discussion on the most mentioned topics.

We would like to acknowledge and thank all the authors who submit papers, they allow iStar 2019 continue being a community reunion for sharing experiences. We would also like to thank all the members of the Program Committee and the additional reviewers for providing their expertise and suggesting constructive advice to improve the quality of the submissions. Last but not least, we want to thank the organizers of the ER conference for their support.
