SENTIER D’IBARDIN circuit

his loop will take you to the slopes of the Col d’Ibardin, through varied landscapes and atmos- pheres. You will be able to admire views over the Rhune peak and the Basque coast.

Particular difficulty

Steep climb to Xoldokogaina Lake. Few tech- nical difficulties with the exception of the descent from the Col d’Ibardin.

Points of the circuit

D606413-4798534 Turn left out of the carpark (N) towards the junction with the RD4. Then turn left (W-NW), direction Urrugne and follow the road. At the end of 900 metres and before the road passes over a bridge, turn left (S-W) 1606118-4799462. Fol- low a small road climbing upwards. At a bend (S-W) take a stony path to the left 2605418-4798825 which climbs to the lake and dam 3604924-4797534. There is a steep climb up to the lake. Then go left round the lake and continue to the Col d’Ibardin by an easy track. Once you arrive in the carpark of the col, turn left (S) 4 606483-4796090 to start the technical des- cent in the forest. Then climb again towards the Col des Abeilles and (carefully) cross the RD404 and take the track opposite which climbs up to the plateau of Aire Leku. Turn left (W) 5 606927-4797426 on the ridge. The track curves round to the north. The des- cent of Musugorri is increasingly steep. At the junc- tion with the RD404 6 606515-4798233, take the road right (E). Return to the carpark.

For your own safety, use marked trails and respect the direc- tion of routes.

Do not overestimate your ability. Mountain-bikers should control their speed in every situation.

For your own safety, do not forget your helmet.

Bring food, drink and suitable clothing.

Please proceed cautiously and be courteous when overtaking or meeting hikers.

A mountain-biker knows that pedestrians have priority and respects the Highway Code.

Respect private property and crop-growing areas. Close gates.

Watch out for agricultural and forestry trucks, do not block their way.

Do not disturb the peace and quiet of wild animals.

Do not pick wild flowers, fruit or mushrooms.

During the hunting season watch out for beats and hides.

Do not throw litter, keep quiet and respect the environment.

If you go alone, let someone know your planned route.

Let the Tourist Office know if you notice something is missing or unusual on the cycle path.

Do not hesitate to contact professionals if you would like to make your outings more enjoyable.

Caution!

During the seasons for pigeon hunting (October to November), group beats (year-round) and stubble-burning (December to March), some circuits should be avoided.
