DEPLOYMENT OF HYDROGEN POWER IN THE “MANCHE” DEPARTMENT:

A MEDIUM OF ENERGY STORAGE AND MORE…

A SMALL RURAL AREA MOVING FORWARD EMERGENCE OF A RESEARCH PROJECT IN THE FIELD OF PARTICIPATIVE DEMOCRACY

TOP-DOWN PROCESS

THE “MANCHE” DEPARTMENT

“The main characteristic of the Manche department is that people do not even know it. No one really

passes it through. With its healthy agriculture, this piece of land never really had to deal with modernism.

There has always been a large gap between this area and others in various fields; at the technical or political levels for instance. “ Jean-François Le Grand.

AWARENESS

The notion of social acceptability in order to get the support of the civil society concerning a pre-defined project is a situation that makes a convincing and binary statement necessary.

YES or ...NO!

CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF

THE PARTICIPATIVE PROGRAMS

The activities to educate, reassure and manage the citizens suffer from the unilateral mode of their interactions. Non-experts are not consi- dered as relevant interlocutors.

REFLEXIVITY: THE MAIN IMPACT OF THE

POPULARISATION OF SCIENCE In order to transmit knowledge to a non-specialist public

(general public), a researcher

needs to prepare a new speech about his research project.

When he transposes this knowledge into common language he also gets a deeper vision of his own field of knowledge.

Consequently, he needs “the other”,

the non-specialist.

THE LAY CATALYSIS CONCEPT

The effect of popularisation on the researcher himself is equivalent to a catalysis effect. In the sense that the mere presence of the non-specialist — and even just the idea to meet him — initiates a reaction (for the one who popularises).

SUGGESTION

Transposing the effects of popularisation (reflexivity) in an interdisciplinary meeting which traditionally consists of experts.
