Résumé : À partir d’une étude de la littérature, cet article discute la coresponsabilité de l’école et de la famille pour la formation bilingue des enfants sourds, intégrant la langue des signes, dans le contexte éducatif brésilien. En ce sens, l’acquisition et le développement de la langue traversent cette discussion, notamment en ce qui a trait au comment, où et quand ce processus se produit dans la vie de l’enfant sourd. Étant donné les conditions de ces enfants au début de leur scolarité, l’éducation joue un rôle important pour leur développement non seulement sur le plan des apprentissages et de la socialisation, mais aussi sur le plan linguistique. Qui plus est, l’implication de la famille dans ce processus d’apprentissage de la langue des signes s’avère fondamentale.

Bilingual education for deaf people: school and family co-responsibility

Summary: This article discusses the relation school and family as co-responsible for the bilingual formation of deaf people, through sign language, in the Brazilian educational context. In this sense, language acquisition and development cross this discussion, mainly in how, where and when they happen in the deaf child’s life. Considering the conditions in which most of these children arrive at school, education of deaf people assumes an important role not only in the development of these students’ academic and civic potential but also their linguistic potential, being essential the family involvement in this sign language teaching process.
