HAL is a multi-disciplinary open access

archive for the deposit and dissemination of sci-entific research documents, whether they are pub-lished or not. The documents may come from teaching and research institutions in France or abroad, or from public or private research centers.

L’archive ouverte pluridisciplinaire HAL, est destinée au dépôt et à la diffusion de documents scientifiques de niveau recherche, publiés ou non, émanant des établissements d’enseignement et de recherche français ou étrangers, des laboratoires publics ou privés.

Context

• Since 2010 France/ANR is strongly involved in

supporting transnational research projects in the

Med area :

– National Level (2010 )

• Mediterranean Foresight on research priorities (ARP PARME)

• National Call Transmed « etudes transdisciplinaires sur

l’avenir de la Mediterranée)

– ARIMNet Call (2011)

– ARIMNet 2 (2015, 2016, 2017) 2 M €/call

– ERANET MED (2015,2016,2017) 2 M€/Call

– CSA 4 PRIMA (SRIA and AWP2018)

Why ?

• Mediterranean Area is a region where problems require to

pull resources for a strong effort in research

• A multilateral approach is required to increase efficiency in

research funding

• Water and food security are priorities

• On one hand, issues that are common and need to be

tackle together : adaptation to climate change, outbreaks

of plant and animal diseases, changes in diets and related

diseases, vulnerable ecosystems and loss of soil fertility..

• On the other hand, problems that affect more severely

South Med country but have impacts in the stability,

economic and political relationships of the whole Region :

increase in rural population, water scarcity, increase in

food imports dependency, poverty..

Sustainable, integrated water management X

Irrigation technologies and practice X

Water reuse and waterdesalination for agricultural and food production X(RIA) Pillar 2 Sustainable farming systems under Med environmental constraints

Adaptation of agriculture to climate change X

Improving the sustainability of Mediterranean productive ecosystems X (RIA)

Preventing emergence of animal and plant diseases X

Developing farming systems able to generate income, to create employment

and to contribute to a balanced territorial development X

Pillar 3 Mediterranean Food Value Chain for Regional and Local development

Valorising food products from traditional Mediterranean diet X

Food Safety and quality in local food chains X

Implementation of innovation in the Agro-food chain, promoting higher quality,

sustainability and competitiveness, with particular reference to smallholders X (IA) Implications of dietary shifts and sustainable diets for the Med populations and

Next steps

- At the level of the programme

- Continue to elaborate on the SRIA, by capitalising on

previous researches, identifying gaps, etc

- Be innovative in the tools for supporting research,

valorising the fact the PRIMA is a 10 year programme, and

designing targeted calls (maturation calls, calls for

networks, etc.)

- At the level of the researchers

- Consolidate partnerships

- Disseminate results

- Continue to apply PRIMA calls !
