PREFACE
During the s u m m e r of 1965, the author was engaged a t the Division of Building Research, in the Building Structures Section, in a study of the l i t e r a t u r e on the u s e of e l e c t r i c resistance s t r a i n gauges on concrete. As a by-product of the work, this bibliography was compiled, originally f o r internal use. It was recently decided that, although it covers only the period f r o m 1940 t o 1964, it might be of value t o others and should be made available i n the DBR/NRC s e r i e s of Bibliographic? s
.

Introduction
The bibliography presented h e r e i n
i s
a by-product of a l i t e r a t u r e survey made by t h e w r i t e r i n connection with t h e preparation of the r e p o r t " ~ n Evaluation of E l e c t r i c a l Resistance S t r a i n Gauges f o r Use on Concrete Surfaces.
No attempt has been made t o rirake the bibliography complete, s i n c e t h e w r i t e r had but a l i m i t e d time a v a i l a b l e , andi t
i s doubtful if t h i s could be achieved i n any case. The w r i t t e r thusconsiders the bibliography as a point of departure f o r the r e a d e r ' s impending study r e l a t e d t o s t r a i n gauges and t h e i r a p p l i c a t i o n s .
The references found i n t h e Engineering Index formed t h e nucleus from which the bibliography grew t o i t s present s i z e * o f a v e r 800 items, The p u b l i cations d i r e c t l y a v a i l a b l e t o t h e w r i t e r i n the Building Research Library and Aeronautical and B'lechanical Engineering Library t h a t were consulted a r e
