PROBLEM 1

 Many students could not derived the V1

 Some of students confused the direction of V2 so they subtracted the 𝑚̇𝑉2 from 𝑚̇𝑉1 which is actually need to be summed due to the direction

 A few of students made a mistake when they consider the density

 Some of students could not use the 7inch height of manometer appropriately

PROBLEM 2

 Most of the students calculated the π1correclty

 Many students could not derived the 𝜋0 well and they made some mistakes when they calculate the index number of repeated variables

 A few of students made a mistake when they consider the unit of pressure

 One student didn’t solve this problem PROBLEM 3

 Some of students made a mistake when they consider the boundary condition

 Also, a few of students could not derived the appropriate boundary condition at free surface

 Several students could not set up the correct equation to calculate the flow rate

 One student could not simplify the momentum equation correctly with given assumption

• Many students could not use a linear momentum equation correctly, and missed pressure force term when they calculate ‘x’ direction of force.. • Some of student confused

 One student couldn’t neglect the convection(Non-linear) term which should be canceled out with the fully developed assumption.  One student used wrong

• Some student made wrong assumptions when applying momentum equations (i.e. not assuming v=0, not neglecting gravity for y-momentum). • Some students did not

• Few students made mistakes when calculating the x and y component of the velocities (e.g. used Vsin θ instead of Vcosθ).

• Many students incorrectly used radial length of the rotor instead of chord length for the calculation of the boundary layer thickness.

• Some students did not use the integral form of the momentum equation; they assumed a uniform velocity distribution not just at section 1 (correct) but also at section (2).. •

• Many students wrote down the continuity equation but made mistakes in deriving the other two equations needed for the system, namely, the head loss along the A-B branch and

Instead, they calculated it by using F=PA equation, which brought huge value for pressure at point 2.. Therefore, the pressure at point 2 wasn't removed in the energy
