“Hooray!” “Yippee!” “Woohoo!”
Try as we might, it’s hard to write words as an attempt to capture a cry or cheer of abso- lute delight and wonder, rising up from deep within. A few weeks ago, watching the NCAA basketball tournament, there were plenty of “hooray’s” heard on TV (as well as groans of utter shock and disappointment). When the University of Virginia finally sealed their championship victory in overtime, the cries of joy and relief from Char- lottesville VA could practically be heard up here in Northern NY. Just last year, UVA lost a humiliating defeat in the very first round of the tournament. So, for many, this was “sweet redemption,” a “new life”
and removal of the “shame” and embarrassment that overshadowed the team and their fans ever since last year.
I love the excitement and drama of good sports competitions, and I can appreciate the story of UVA’s championship. But it hardly compares to the drama and victory that we celebrate today. We really can’t overstate the shame, sorrow, and utter devastation that over- whelmed the Apostles right after Jesus’ crucifixion and death. Clearly, it was far worse than a rather humiliating defeat on a basketball court.
So, imagine the frenzy of cheering, crying fans of UVA on the streets of Charlottesville VA after their beloved team’s victory, and multiply its intensity by a billion. That still cannot approach the magnitude of the victory that Jesus Christ won, or the joy and amazement that welled up from within His disciples, as they realized what this actually means: the ultimate defeat death has been reversed! Christ is risen! He won!
And we are allowed to share in that victory! What’s the word for our
“cheer?” Well, people of faith have had a word to sum it up for centu- ries: “Alleluia!” It means literally “give praise to the Lord,” raised up in worship and rejoicing. We’ll sing it a lot in the coming days of the Easter Season. And may that “cheer” rise up from the depths of our hearts throughout our lives. Because it really does change everything.
Christ is risen, Alleluia!

CALLING ALL READERS!
The Spiritual Book Club read has arrived for May! The book chosen is "Paying At- tention to God" by William A. Barry. And, as a special plug for the book, Fr. Mark commented that this is a great book on the Ignatian model for spiritual discernment.
So, what are you waiting for??
The books have arrived and ARE available to be picked up either at the Parish Office or at the kiosks located at Sa- cred Heart and St. Mary's Churches. Copies are $6 each.

Happy reading!
The regular monthly meeting of the St. Lawrence Assembly 4th Degree will be held this coming Tues- day evening, April 23rd, at 7 pm in St. Mary’s Social Hall. All 4th Degree Knights are welcome and en- couraged to attend.
Dear Sisters and Brothers of Massena & Church Community, We are pleased to report that we had a very successful Lenten season and this is mostly due to the tireless effort of you who volunteered your time and talents preparing and serving lunches to those who came to the services at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
A big thank you to those veterans who helped us along the way. We enjoyed the team work and involvement of all the churches. To make sure no one was forgotten, please pass this thank you to anyone from your church who helped. We are grateful for all the support.
Donations were approximately $1,100 and all proceeds from the free will offering will go to the Massena Meals on Wheels program.
Join the Table Tennis Club!
The Table Tennis Club is looking for new members. They meet every Tuesday at 6:30pm at the Trinity Catholic

World Day of Prayer for all Vocations
Sunday, May 28, 2019 Creator of the Universe, God of the Nations Your people are longing to hear your word.
Send laborers into your harvestwomen and men on the fire with your love:
Dedicated single people who incarnate you presence in their daily lives, whose availability enables them to respond to a diversity of needs.
Married Couples whose relationships serve as a sign of your fidelity to your people, whose love overflows to their children and neighbors.
Ordained Ministers
Who gather the prayers and longing of your people who serve as a channel of your presence through the sacraments.
Religious sisters, brothers, and priests
Whose life in community foreshadows out eternal uni- ty in Christ, whose service brings your life to the world.
May each of us respond with courage and generosity to our particular vocations, and may the Church recog- nize the Spirit’s call to men and women of good will, trusting in you abundance to answer all our needs.
