“This is the age of open-source – in technology, in culture, and now in politics. (…) And as it flourishes almost everywhere, it is time, finally, for people to recognize it for what it is: It is power, today.” “New technologies have invited the amateur back in “politics, they have contributed to the development of “passionate grassroots movements” (the Tea Partiers, the Occupiers, etc.). Since 2008, “the citizens of Iceland launched the most ambitious crowd sourced-sovereignty project in modern history”. Recently, “the Internet outsiders” blocked SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (the Protect IP Act)”. “For the first time ever, the Hollywood lobbyists had been stopped by a grassroots, Internet- based open-source movement.” “These waves have flowed in a direction. They speak to a potential that if nurtured could become real. For we outsiders –call us « citizens »- still have the authority over the insiders – call them “politicians”. At least we can find again a way to speak. And then to act.” “We need to use every creative tool at hand to achieve this one small change.” (L. Lessig)
