Development
of theembryo
and of thetrophoblastic
vesicle was studied in 20 crossbredLarge
While x Landvace sows onday
17 ofgestation.
’I’he
length
of theembryo
varied from 2 to rz mm(average : 7 mm).
In one and the samesow the size of the
embryos
washomogenous (variation
coefficient under 20 p.100 ).
There wasa close
relationship (v
-0 . 7 )
between the size of theembryo
and the number of somites(average :
1
8
somites).
The
trophoblastic
vesicles were more a lesstight
folded.They only overlapped
each othersexceptionally
andoccupied
the whole uterus. On an average, 10 cm of uterus horn wereoccupied by
34 ’b 2.4 cm oftrophoblastic
vesicle.The individual
length
of thetrophoblastic
vesicles varied much in one and the same horn(for
instance4 8,
gg, !3, 95, r l7cm).
Thelonger
the hornlength
and the smaller the number ofembryos
in the horn, thegreater
the meanlength
of the vesicles. In hornsmeasuring
between 100and r2o cm, this mean
length ranged
between IIS and 55mm for hornscontaining
2and 6embryos, respectively ;
in horns between 140 and 170cmlong,
the meanlength
of thetrophoblastic
vesicleswere 170 and 102 cm for 2 and 6
embryos, respectively.
There was no
relationship
between thelength
of thetrophoblastic
vesicle and the size of theembryo.
