PREFACE

The ICWE 2009 Doctoral Consortium is an international forum for PhD students working in Web Engineering issues. Our intent is to give students the opportunity to present and discuss their research in a constructive and friendly atmosphere and at the same time to serve as the “entrance door” for them to participate in a major confer- ence like ICWE. Students can interact with each others and receive advise from re- searchers attending to the DC.

The documents in this volume will be presented during the consortium and were reviewed by an international program committee. The paper shows an important vari- ety of themes from services to queries, from Web 2.0 to Semantic Web, from evolu- tion to personalization.

Doctoral research is one of the parameters to measure the richness and maturity of a field. We are happy that this applies well to the Web Engineering domain. The con- tributions to the Doctoral Consortium reflect that the field is active and growing. A selected Program Committee was set up to help reviewing and selecting the papers to be presented at the consortium. Members of the Doctoral Consortium Program Com- mittee were Sven Casteleyn, Florian Daniel, Damiano Distante, María Jose Escalona, Fernando Figueroa, Joan Fons, Daniela Godoy, Nora Koch, Luis Olsina, and Wieland Schwinger. The Doctoral Consortium also included a keynote talk by Sven Casteleyn, from The Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, on research issues in Web Engineering.

Acknowledgements. I would like to thank the ICWE 2009 organization for giving us the opportunity to organize this Consortium. Thanks to all the students who sub- mitted papers, their advisors and particularly to the contributing authors. My gratitude also goes to the members of the Program Committee, for their timely and accurate reviews which helped to prepare this program.
